[open] Wuko Wedding
Who: Mako, Wu, and you!
What: GETTING MARRIED
When: February 20th
Where: The beach, through the city, at the Raccoon Room in Cellar Door.
Content Warnings: An inordinate amount of fluff, potentially event happenings.
The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. It starts with just the two of them, at a flower arch on the beach, their hands clasped together, each in a gold suit with red and green accents on the collar and as piping down the front. They walk together along a flower strewn path, talking quietly with one another, sharing small, nervous smiles.
If you are close to the couple, you recieved a red envelope, delivered either by raccoon or small dragon, a few days before the wedding, inviting you to the ceremony. The small crowd gathers outside the Raccoon Room, where the threshold is decked out in red roses. The couple stands in the doorway, saying their vows, and pressing a blood-and-ash covered hand to the other's cheek.
While the ceremony is private, the reception isn't. Invites have gone out to basically the entire city, via Wu's post, so it's a pretty public event. Maybe you're coming because you saw that post. Maybe you're coming because you're involved somehow, maybe you just see a flower-and-light-filled party and decide to drop in. Everyone is welcome. After all, this is Trench, and everyone could be dead tomorrow, so why not celebrate something good while you have the chance? Come in, dance to music from different worlds, eat cake and noodles and dumplings, celebrate a little moment of happiness while you can. The party's going all night, and the couple making their solemn, slightly-bloody vows to each other are only the excuse for it.
((ooc: Make top-levels to your hearts' content, mingle, have a good time! This is a Trench party and it's open to everyone!

The Wedding
It's not a normal wedding. There's no officiant, they're not standing up in front of a bunch of people to declare their love: this is a Trench wedding, based on Mako and Wu's shared traditions, inventing some new ones. The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. [ The music shifts into something with heavier drums, and Mako lets go, less sure how to move to this one. ]
I didn't like him, at first. He was pretty spoiled. Hiding a lot of stuff, pretending to be something he wasn't, but when it really came down to it and his people needed him... he turned out to be pretty amazing.

There's nothing like a crisis to bring out one's truest self. I've learned to not judge people in the everyday, but in the middle of some odd situation or another. And since this place counts as an odd situation, we all should be our authentic selves.

[ There's some truth to it, though, that Mako can see. A crisis usually means people are acting on instinct, following their more basic fears and desires to get through something. He knows very well how the rest of the world gets stripped away, down to wood and tacks when things are burning up around you. He's been there more times than he can count, and he's certainly going to be there again. ]
Seems to me like your real self is the one you are when no one's looking at you. The things that count are the actions you take that you think you can get away with, you know? The end of the world brings out your best or your worst.
[ Maybe that is your true self, though. Mako's been trying to figure out what his real self is for months now. ]
(CW: mass death event)
[she knows Cal survived. that many First Class men survived even while Steerage children were denied their chances. that Jack died still believing a boat was on its way to save them. and that she'd promised him that if anything happened, she would truly live her life, not let herself get swallowed up by grief and regret. some times were easier than others, but she fully intended to keep her promise]
That has a lot of sense to it. I'd expect most people here to be fairly truthful, given that so much danger surrounds us and we need to rely on each other. Even rich and poor seem to have little meaning, something completely unthinkable where and when I came from. As for the end of the world...I would like to think it brought out my best?
[she will regret Jack dying until her own dying day. but he'd saved her in so many ways, too many to properly list or describe]

[ Of course she came from another world that nearly ended. Why are there so many of those, worlds on the brink?
The song ends, and Mako stops moving, panting very lightly from the exertion. It seems weird to talk about this in the middle of the dance floor, with Ryan and Min up there doing their best, so he waves a hand at Rose to follow him toward the bar. ]
You tried the fancy drinks yet?

[the wreck of the Titanic was the end of her world. no more fancy parties, no more of Mother's expectations, no more Cal. ever. when she got back home, she was charting her own path.
and she follows him easily, carefully dodging the other dancers]
Yes! I had a chocolate martini and it was delicious. Martinis back home taste like bleach.
