[open] Wuko Wedding
Who: Mako, Wu, and you!
What: GETTING MARRIED
When: February 20th
Where: The beach, through the city, at the Raccoon Room in Cellar Door.
Content Warnings: An inordinate amount of fluff, potentially event happenings.
The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. It starts with just the two of them, at a flower arch on the beach, their hands clasped together, each in a gold suit with red and green accents on the collar and as piping down the front. They walk together along a flower strewn path, talking quietly with one another, sharing small, nervous smiles.
If you are close to the couple, you recieved a red envelope, delivered either by raccoon or small dragon, a few days before the wedding, inviting you to the ceremony. The small crowd gathers outside the Raccoon Room, where the threshold is decked out in red roses. The couple stands in the doorway, saying their vows, and pressing a blood-and-ash covered hand to the other's cheek.
While the ceremony is private, the reception isn't. Invites have gone out to basically the entire city, via Wu's post, so it's a pretty public event. Maybe you're coming because you saw that post. Maybe you're coming because you're involved somehow, maybe you just see a flower-and-light-filled party and decide to drop in. Everyone is welcome. After all, this is Trench, and everyone could be dead tomorrow, so why not celebrate something good while you have the chance? Come in, dance to music from different worlds, eat cake and noodles and dumplings, celebrate a little moment of happiness while you can. The party's going all night, and the couple making their solemn, slightly-bloody vows to each other are only the excuse for it.
((ooc: Make top-levels to your hearts' content, mingle, have a good time! This is a Trench party and it's open to everyone!

The Wedding
It's not a normal wedding. There's no officiant, they're not standing up in front of a bunch of people to declare their love: this is a Trench wedding, based on Mako and Wu's shared traditions, inventing some new ones. The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. [ Fritter is absolutely leading them both on a Mission To The Tables, and Mako has one eye on them both, might be thinking at Wu that he should come take a break and control his Omen. ]
Seriously. It's—you wouldn't want to do it with someone you didn't trust, and—
[ This is a wedding. His wedding. Maybe it's not the right time, or a weird thing to bring up, but it's important, isn't it? ]
It's okay with Wu because... he's an open book anyway. And he's a paleblood. Ever since we washed up here, he's been able to tell how I'm feeling, sometimes what I'm thinking, and I already know what he's thinking. I don't how he's going to feel about being in my head all the time a month or a year from now, but I know that if he's ever in trouble, I'm going to know about it.
After everything that happened in the dream before this, that's important.
But you shouldn't just trust it coming from anyone. That's smart.

and his description of the bond and Wu makes her melt] You're so lucky. The two of you are. You have something most people can only dream of having, a soul-deep connection both inside the mind and outside of it. And I'm--I'm so happy for you both. I know that might sound ridiculous, seeing as how I'm still so new, but. What can I say? I believe in love.
Yes. And it must be a relief to be able to know.
I try to be. [and she has deep-seated wariness around (most) telepaths, after what Saturn Girl did to her husband and to her]

[ Mako isn't even really sure what he's thanking her for. This is the kind of thing he gets hung up on: all these genuine feelings being directed at him, happiness on his behalf, and for what? There is a small mean voice inside him, built up over the years, that wants to know what she's getting out of this. What is anyone getting out of this? Free food, sure, and the chance to let loose at a big party. It could be as simple as that, and it makes sense. Everyone wants something, and he and Wu are offering a whole lot of something.
It's the genuine happiness for the two of them that really throws him. What do people get out of expressing that? Half the people at this party don't even know them, but here Tinya is, telling him sincerely and earnestly that he's lucky. What does Mako do with all of that, but stiffen up in the face of it, fall back on the patterns that kept him safe his whole life?
His mouth twists, a little awkward. Genuine feeling is hard, even with Wu in his head softening his edges. ]
Really, thanks. I, uh. I know it means a lot to Wu that so many people came. He's not the king anymore but this party's important to him.

[she's unsure, herself. for getting Moonlight away from his plate? maybe simply for coming and being happy for them and their marriage? she prays that they'll be luckier in it than she and Jo were.
she loves Jo still but she's no longer sure that was enough, she wasn't sure he was willing to put in the work to heal the rift between them. she wants to demand it of him, but what would that be but slipping into old habits of her foremothers she doesn't want to repeat. so it was like a splinter in her brain, ignorable for a while, but it had an ugly habit of reminding her of pain when she least wanted it. and she certainly didn't want it now]
It's my pleasure. And he's sweet, so coming was the least I could do. I wish you both joy.
