[open] Wuko Wedding

Who: Mako, Wu, and you!
What: GETTING MARRIED
When: February 20th
Where: The beach, through the city, at the Raccoon Room in Cellar Door.

Content Warnings: An inordinate amount of fluff, potentially event happenings.

The Wedding

It's not a normal wedding. There's no officiant, they're not standing up in front of a bunch of people to declare their love: this is a Trench wedding, based on Mako and Wu's shared traditions, inventing some new ones.

The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. It starts with just the two of them, at a flower arch on the beach, their hands clasped together, each in a gold suit with red and green accents on the collar and as piping down the front. They walk together along a flower strewn path, talking quietly with one another, sharing small, nervous smiles.

If you are close to the couple, you recieved a red envelope, delivered either by raccoon or small dragon, a few days before the wedding, inviting you to the ceremony. The small crowd gathers outside the Raccoon Room, where the threshold is decked out in red roses. The couple stands in the doorway, saying their vows, and pressing a blood-and-ash covered hand to the other's cheek.

While the ceremony is private, the reception isn't. Invites have gone out to basically the entire city, via Wu's post, so it's a pretty public event. Maybe you're coming because you saw that post. Maybe you're coming because you're involved somehow, maybe you just see a flower-and-light-filled party and decide to drop in. Everyone is welcome. After all, this is Trench, and everyone could be dead tomorrow, so why not celebrate something good while you have the chance? Come in, dance to music from different worlds, eat cake and noodles and dumplings, celebrate a little moment of happiness while you can. The party's going all night, and the couple making their solemn, slightly-bloody vows to each other are only the excuse for it.

The Party

Naturally, since this is Mako and Wu's wedding, it's at the Raccoon Room, decked out even more grandly than it was for its opening. Roses adorn every surface and drop from the ceiling in strings, perfuming the air. Scattered between them are red-and-gold lanterns, casting a dim, inviting light onto velvet hangings. Lining the walls are tables full of food and drinks. Everyone can't fit into this little venue, so Wu has also set up a draping tent outside, full of burning braziers of coal to keep the chill away. The doors are wide open to let the music from inside out: it's just the party, continued! Renfri can be found behind the bar, dishing up custom drinks.

The Music

Chicken Choice Judy, or Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park, make their Trench debut on the stage of the Raccoon Room, playing an eclectic mix of original music, 80s hits, current pop, and classical piano music. They begin with a slowed-down version of Lil Nas X's Montero, ease into an upbeat version of That's What I Want, and things take off from there. Maybe give them requests? They might play some of your favorite dance songs! This is a party for everyone, after all. A big space in front of the stage has been cleared for dancing, and the music will be going all night.

The Couple

After the more private ceremony (with only close friends and loved ones, for Mako's peace of mind) Mako and Wu are as available as any couple at their wedding, which is to say, not terribly. With new dark handprints from the ceremony on their faces—really, more on their necks, because Wu wouldn't stand for a giant handprint ruining his look—they can be found chatting with friends, huddled together whispering, or dancing together. They'll try to mingle as much as they can, but they're in pretty high demand tonight!

"Yeah, it's what my world calls turning intangible. When we're like that, nothing can hurt us, even a blaster to the face." But Tinya sighed, trying to not look as frustrated as she feels. "But I haven't been able to do it since I arrived."

Whatever blaster is, that can wait. She's pretty sure she can parse it out.

"I had something like that happen, in the other place. You have my sympathies."

"Really? Something stole your powers there?" She sighs and looks a little dejected. "I suppose I should have expected that. Places like this usually demand some kind of price."

"Messed with them, at least. And yeah, pretty sure it was just the Pthumerians being terrible beings."

She sighs and tries to look more cheerful than she feels, but she fears it's a lost cause. "I'm so sorry to hear that. Did they at least give you new powers?" Because she now commands fire, ice, and lightning. Something no Legionnaire could claim--at least not all at once. But that's cold comfort when she misses those she loves. And the inborn powers her foremothers had been so proud of finding, claiming, and mastering.

She shook her head. "Not really. And I wouldn't trust them if they did," she replied. Her view of the Pthumerians was universally negative.

"If they give us anything, it's only so that we'll misuse it to hurt others."

"It--it is hard to trust them. My new powers, anyway. I have a teammate who can summon lightning, those of Tharr can control ice, but fire...that power only comes about if someone's been through something awful involving fire. Having all three...it's unheard of." She didn't know what to think of the Pthumerians just yet. Her opinion of them would increase if she could have something of her birthright back.

She nods and looks serious. "That's what I'm afraid of."

She nods at that.

"All of which are things that, by any common sense, should take years or a lifetime to master. So they come with wisdom about their use, tempering by time and experience."

She shrugs.

"Here they just give everyone the weapons to kill, and I can only assume it's for the sheer pleasure of seeing us do terrible things to each other with them."

It'd take a lot for Korra's opinion of them to rise at all.

"If you are new, or new-ish - the best advice I can give you is this: the Pthumerians love to create moral dilemmas that encourage you to hurt others, and think it right. They make it very, very easy to decide to be violent. Resist."

She smiled, softly.

"And if you need help, I'm always here to do so. Or just to listen. And...I'm sorry for getting all serious on you at a wedding. With kittens."

Tinya bit her lower lip at Korra's explanation.

"And I have neither time nor experience. I think...I'm relatively safe with lightning, just from watching my teammates use it. They were always very careful. The other two?" She shook her head no. "I really am the worst kind of rookie."

And she wants her birthright back. Something discovered eons ago by what would become her bloodline, shared with the other women of her planet.

Tinya sighed and looked...not accepting. More like begrudgingly resigned. "The other world was kind of like that. It would stick us in situations where there were no good options, just the least awful one. I've had a lot of practice resisting things. Usually it got me into trouble, but I don't mind that much."

She smiles back, gently.

"I'll have to take you up on that. And you can always come talk to me, if you want?" But Tinya's smile grew. "It's fine. I'd rather know what I'm in for than have to fumble around on my own. And I'm always happy to show off my kittens."

She grinned at the latter. "And I will happily pet cute tiny things," she replied. "Though, I should offer - elemental powers are...well, it's a long story, but I've been mastering them since I was six years old."

She stepped back a bit, and moved her hands in a circle around each other, a flame springing into life between them, rolling with the movements of her hands, before she closed them together and it disappeared as quickly as it had arrived.

Tinya grinned back. "And they'll be happy to meet you. They love attention." And her eyes widen when she hears about Korra's use and mastery of elemental powers. "Really? You'd help?"

And she grinned even wider when she saw Korra summon and manipulate the flame expertly. "Yeah. I definitely want your help."

She smiles, gently. "Of course I'll help. That's what the Avatar does, and it's what I do."

She nods, decisively, to carry things along.

"And if you need help with the lightning, talk to Mako. He's the most talented lightning bender in a generation."

"All right, I'm glad to have your help and with luck, Mako's too. I have a feeling I'm going to need it."
