days of future past;

Who: everyone, you're all invited
What: Grand opening of Rocky's
When: March 1 - or whenever, feel free to future date if you want
Where: Rocky's Bar

Content Warnings: Will be placed in subject line if necessary

Dean will toss a post up on the network that is visible to all. It's just an ad for the place - a huge blinking gif that says ROCKY'S BAR, and a text under it that says 'GRAND OPENING MARCH 1, 7:00pm - ?'. There is a list of information available in the post, as well as normal opening times (12 noon), and closing (2am-ish). This is an open invite for the entire community to come check it out. All ages will be permitted into the arcade (and offered soft drinks/water from the bar) until 10pm, after that, they will be asked to leave the premises, and it becomes adult only.

Admission: Admission will be local 'currency'; a shiny rock, quartz or gemstone (or something similar) will pay for a night of drinks and games. Spices and things like salt/pepper are also acceptable.

Or, if you want to work a shift then throw down, same gig.

The place will be set up for a proper party - streamers, music pumping from a jukebox in a corner, though there is a playlist that is on shuffle unless someone picks something else. At the far end of the bar, through scattered tables and chairs, there is also a karaoke stage. Two microphones are set up, but there are more if there are enough in the party to warrant digging them out. For now, a Trench citizen is running the karaoke rounds (and will be doing so every Friday night until the position is otherwise filled), and should you want to sing, just write your name down in her little black book along with the song title, and she'll call you up when it's your turn.

There's a long banquet table of food against one wall that is being refreshed as needed by various Trenchies. It includes the following:

French fries
Onion rings
Nachos
Wings
Mozzarella sticks
Quesadillas
Chicken Sliders
Artichoke dip

Traveling downstairs and into the basement will take you to the arcade - there are tons of games lit by neon and blacklight, their siren song luring you right in. Pacman, DDR, Galaga, Asteroids, Frogger, etc are all there, as well as several pinball machines, ski-ball, a foosball and an air hockey table. If you dream it, it's probably there.

If none of that is your style, you can hit the bar, where Dean himself (and another Trench citizen) will be serving drinks - there's a Squid Special (a tequila shot and a beer), and three craft beers on tap - Cosmic Cowboy IPA, Fox Rye Lager, and Blue Ghost pale ale, all from Dean's own microbrewery.

(( ooc; this is an open/party style log where everyone can interact with everyone else. Don't feel the need to wait for Dean to serve you a drink, there is another Trench bartender helping him out until he hires someone else.

There ARE bouncers, but if your character is being a jerk, do let me know because Dean will step in and toss them out :3 If you have any questions, hmu [plurk.com profile] pincurls! otherwise, have fun, mingle, and enjoy! ))

Wonderful!

[she looks giddy with elation, she loved that song for very personal reasons. her wreck of a life back home, dissected and scrutinized by countless people, her mother smug and telling her that she told Tinya so. but that song made her feel fearless]

Really? What was your signature cocktail?
eudaimonikos: (a boost over heaven's gate)

Oh, most of the clients were locals - they were boring. Not technically real people, I think? I was in it for the Sleepers.

[Genuinely more for the opportunity to chat with people than the money! Also it was the only human job he'd ever done, even if it was only for like one day.]

But they had some really funny 1950s cocktails. I liked the one with beef broth in it.
unphase: (feel something for me but because)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-16 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's still odd for me to think about, a situation where there would be people, but not people. [a pause] If I may be presumptuous, how long have you been in this place and the other?

[because she wondered if she'd be here another three years and if she'd go back in time seamlessly like she had before, lived a life without memories of the other place as before. she valued her memories almost as much as her free will]

Beef broth? Please tell me you're joking. I can't imagine that working in anything other than some weird variation on a Bloody Mary. Was it actually good?

It was about a year, in the first place, and...six, seven months here? So not all that long.

[He knows his conception of the passage of time is different from other peoples', but he's pretty sure that doesn't even count as a long amount of time for a human.

Anyway - he laughs.]

No! It sucked, it was great!
unphase: (I can remember where I come from)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-17 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's an admirable amount of time. Because a year and six months? In that time, who knows how much older my son will become? He--he was five when the other world took me back, only for this world to steal me away when the other world wasn't looking.

[it does to her. her son should have been an infant still, only when she'd left, he was the Terran equivalent of five years old. five years old and continually getting into mischief, like his father]

I'm almost horrified enough to ask you to mix it for me. Almost. When we get to the bar, what will you be having?
eudaimonikos: (a treatise of human nature)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-17 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [Well, he guesses small amounts of time matter occasionally.] Well, travel between dimensions isn't always one-to-one, timewise. I'd think it'd be pretty rare for the timelines to parallel.

Something fruity. With an umbrella. What's the point in having a drink without an umbrella or something in it?
unphase: (deck the halls it's you again)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I would hope not. If they all did parallel, me and the other two mes would...I don't know. Converge into one? Two of us already did.

Like a Mai Tai? Or a Pina Colada? Actually, the latter sounds good. I haven't had one in ages.
eudaimonikos: (repetition)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-17 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the afterlife's like that. Our timeline's loopy.

[He says with no further explanation, and sits at the bar.]

I actually quit drinking for a while after ending up in Deerington. Got weirded out that I couldn't just sober myself up. [Actually it was trauma about losing control of himself in an inebriation-like manner during a blood event, but. He's trying to get past that.] But then I figured, maybe I should just figure out how humans do it.
unphase: (I don't think you even know what you)

(CW: alcohol abuse)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-17 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't actually remember much in between the time I died and the time I realized my spirit was caught in my now-husband's body. Which sounds weird, mostly because it was weird.

[the occasional sensation, like when he'd lowered his invulnerability so he could get drunk and pass out. that made her worry and try even harder to get out]

Oh. Wow. Yeah, that would make getting drunk a bad idea. [yes, that would be hard to get over] Two drink maximum, for both of us. That's one way to do it, to have a drinking buddy.
eudaimonikos: (a treatise of human nature)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That just sounds like poor management.

[Not that his afterlife is, strictly speaking, responsible for getting the humans there. They tend to do that on their own.]

Ah. Yeah, I used to do whatever at the office parties, but we could always just snap out of it when we had to. Benefits of the afterlife.
unphase: (I escape into your escape)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I'm not sure it should have been a comfort that I wasn't taken to the Mistress' Eternal Garden. I know I wasn't in the Void.

[because she could hear and have vague sensations. and because she was determined to leave her then-boyfriend's body so she could be with him again]

We have some of that in the thirty-first century, too, but it always felt like cheating. [a pause as they reach the bar] So, pick your poison. Cocktails or beer?
eudaimonikos: (right vs. wrong)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going with the pina colada. There's an umbrella and a big pineapple slice.

[Michael is easily entertained!]

You?
unphase: (I hear she grants forgiveness)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-18 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Both good reasons to choose a drink.

[and she thinks a moment.

to the bartender] Gin and tonic with a cucumber slice. [to Michael] It's an old favorite. And I doubt they have champagne since I can't seem to find wine anywhere.
eudaimonikos: (the difficulty of tolerance)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-18 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I hadn't noticed. Must be too hard to grow grapes.

[He puts in his order as well and leans forward with his elbows propped on the bar.]

That is one thing I miss - having a lot of plants around.
unphase: (I know she's watching that star)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-18 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The climate doesn't exactly seem vineyard friendly.

[she sits with perfect posture on her bar stool. old habits die hard]

I miss it, too. I'd love to see roses or even local wildflowers. Magnolias, crabapple trees, cherry blossoms, anything.
eudaimonikos: (deductive argument)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-18 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You should talk to Fern. He's made of grass, he can grow a lot of flowers and things. Not sure if it's at will, or seasonal.

[Maybe a bit of both?]

He trades me plants for stuff, sometimes.
unphase: (I said I know she's not that foxy but)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-19 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I have a teammate who was descended from plants, but--being made of actual grass? How extraordinary!

I would love a rosebush. The darker the red, the better. Unfortunately, I don't expect anyone to know about Bgztlian Blues.
eudaimonikos: (consequences)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-19 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's cool. I don't...know where he's from, actually. They mostly look like Earth plants, I think.
unphase: (I never was the fantasy of what you want)

[personal profile] unphase 2022-03-19 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I'll have to look him up, perhaps pay him a visit.

[and she gestures to her empty rocks glass to the bartender] One more, please.
eudaimonikos: (critique of judgement)

[personal profile] eudaimonikos 2022-03-20 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Same.

[Michael pushes over his own empty glass, retaining his big pineapple slice to chomp on.]

He's cool. Tough, too, good in a fight. He was in Deerington a while before I was, a few of those kids were.
