Head Full of Doubt
Who: Shouto
swellter and Dabi
burnitblack
What: Staples run.
When: A few days after THIS.
Where: The Lumenarium
Content Warnings: mentions of domestic violence, emotional exploitation, praticide, and possible fratacide (will edit as needed)
In the healing district of Trench, a young Todoroki waits for his older brother near the pale greenhouse of the Lumenarium. Sunset has long dipped beneath the horizon and Shouto gravitates towards a patch of Lumenflowers for light. The soft glow of the petals compete with the red haze that surrounds the district and dampen the taste of blood in the air with their thick, sweet smell. It suffocates the blood stench but it still feels wrong. All that blood in the air.
He draws closer to the flowers while he waits. His omen, as usual, lies behind his ribcage sleeping to the beat of his heart. She's not as trusting as him. Warned him of this meeting, but understands the depth of feeling behind his decision. I only ever knew him by the picture on his vigil. I want...
I know. Kizu had stopped arguing, accepting his feelings for Touya, while distrusting Dabi.
As the minutes tick by, Shouto settles himself among the flowers, breathing in their thick scent to drown out the blood while he waits for his brother.

Still new to this place, Dabi keeps to the shadows, following the directs on the stone in his hand. This Omni thing is... interesting. He's played around with it during the few days he's been here. Learned some things. Reading through the so-called "welcome" book in his pack has also been informative. Connecting the dots and illuminating confusions. Some things he has questions about still, but for now... more important matters to attend to.
Stopping in the darkness outside the range of the flowers' glow, he eyes the other person waiting for him. It's strange to think Shouto's here, irritating him that one of the people he can't stand is one of the people he somewhat has to rely on right now. Part of him wants to turn around and leave, figure out another way, but the pragmatic side of him has no problem utilizing this to his advantage. Once Shouto shows him around this Lumenarium, Touya won't need him anymore.
The scent of the flowers mingles with the thick copper in the air. Blood. Lots of it. Can't say it's entirely an uncommon smell he's found himself in during his time on the streets, but never quite this concentrated or oppressive. Guess he wasn't lying about the blood magic... Ch, this place is obsessed.
As Shouto tries his best to sink into the flowers and turn into some storybook figure, Dabi steps out of the shadows and heads into their light, coming to a stop in front of him a few feet off.
"If ya had a coffin around ya, you'd look like your own wake."
no subject
Would you visit my wake?
[ He stands in one smooth motion, brushing off the dirt that clings to him. ]
no subject
Not at all surprised by the question and completely ignores it. Irrelevant as he turns to look at the large building nearby.]
So that's the Lumenarium.
no subject
Do you want to go in?
no subject
[said in that deadpan sarcasm way. he's used to being wanted. walking into a hospital instinctively is a "hell no" thought in his mind. already heading off to the side, wanting to take a wander around the building.
like he's sizing up its exterior and determining a better place to break in. cause that's exactly what he's planning on doing.]
no subject
No one cares who you are here. You don't need to break in.
[ Sage advice there. ] We can go through the front doors.
no subject
that said, there's advantage in being anonymous. hearing a few faint screams in the distance wavers his decision weighing.]
What about all those?
[he jerks a thumb over towards other buildings, may of which look like, to his guess, smaller clinics. privately owned.]
no subject
Corruption.
The Bloodministers are the ones who know how to use warmblood to treat the corrupted.
[ And it's not a quiet process. ]
no subject
A Hunter seems right up his damn alley, though he's rueful about hunting in order to "protect" the other people here... Gathering plants and creatures for his own resource trading is more enticing, but then again, hunting down people with free reign to torch them isn't a bad use of his time either.]
So ya got no idea what we're gonna face goin into that place. Since ya never had to get healed.
[Not that he's looking to get "healed" in the fist place. Just wants some drugs and some shit to patch his skin up.]
no subject
There's nothing to face. It's a hospital. They treat people.
[ He doesn't understand why they're going about this in a roundabout way. ]
no subject
Fine. Do it your way. I'll decide inside.
[if it doesn't work out, he knows how to get what he wants another way. but it's clear he doesn't trust what he's going towards. just walk in and ask for help? psh, like that's ever happened back home...]
no subject
We'll go through the front doors.
[ He says in response, slowly heading back the way they came, looking back every once in a while to make sure he was still following. ]
no subject
dabi shoves his hands into his pockets, trailing after shouto like a gloomy scarecrow.]
Ya know some of the other kids arrived, right?
no subject
I know. [ He could deny it, but what would be the point? Besides, he's not one prone to lie. ] They helped me rescue Midoriya.
no subject
Rescue from what?
no subject
[ And hiding away from everyone. It took almost a week to find him and drag him back. ]
He's better now.
It's easy to get corrupted in this place if you spill blood.
[ Which is why it's the first thing he warned him about. ]
no subject
[but if a single drop was enough to make Shouto freak out, maybe that's a moot point.]
no subject
There was a monster attack.
Not everyone made it.
no subject
[sounds strange, but it's not impossible. he's seen giants show up out of nowhere.]
no subject
One. There was only one.
A Kaijuu. A monster from someone else's world. No one knows how it got here but it took a lot of people to take it down.
[ Or so he heard. He was in a coma at the time, waking up only after the attack. ]
no subject
[unfortunately touya, while not as sheltered as shouto during his childhood, since he and his other two siblings at least went to school outside the estate, wasn't interested in things like comics and movies. so the notion of kaijuu is barely a vague reference in his head. (godzilla, sure, because not even endeavor could keep godzilla out of his house.)
dabi glances to the world around him.]
Like Gigantomachia?
no subject
He halts, surprised by the reference, and looks back at his brother, briefly reminded of exactly who he was back home. It's a miracle they can be here like this. Gives him hope that they could one day... possibly... ]
I wasn't there, but that seems right from what I heard.
no subject
like quirks, could be used for good or bad, he's guessing. as for the monsters... burn them. so he'd like to say, but after that giant bastard stormed right through his flames, touya had to face the reality there were some things that could resist his quirk.]
What kinds have you faced?
no subject
Monsters? [ He has to think about it. ] Mostly the common ones. The special ones come every month. Those are harder to take down.
no subject
They show up on a monthly basis?

well today's chapter bloody hurt
!! I can't believe it's worse than we thought!!
he's such a failure, not even afo wants him!
*That* killed me! His entire backstory just got 10x worse!!!!
his life is a tragedy. i really don't want him to die now! it's too sad if he does.
I don't think he will! Whole point of Shouto's arc is to save his family. If Dabi dies, he loses.
damn that's a really solid point. hope it'll go that route and not "sometimes shit happens" route.
They've been humanizing him for the last 100CH for a reason. I think, he'll be saved.
he's going to be a very charred boy if he's saved.
I think there's a plot thing to address that.... /has theories/
i want the rest of his family to show up; they said they had to handle him Together
the way the fights structured don't think that's going to happen til it's over... but want this too!
look, touya's great and all, but rei still needs to give him a mama smack / hug...
She can do it after the fact...?
if he still has his face...
He's the definition of defiance. 'You're not dead? How are you still alive?!'
"I'M ANGRY!" cause apparently the power of hate is insane
... maybe can call it 'willpower'. I have theories! Can't wait for next week!
sounds like what it is. and i predict it'll jump to spinner or afo next week.
no! i need more todoroki storyline! also going to wrap this thread up to tag his open post!
*salutes* you and me both. and sounds good to me!
