Is there...one or the other I should favor? [he knows very little about horticulture.]

”mothers can’t choose favorites.” even if she jokingly refers to every one she comes by as her favorite. she continues: ”but since you are not a mother, i can tell you this: i’m sure no seedling is more deserving than the other. choose the one that calls to you.” ]
no subject
while he looks over the offerings, 'the one that calls to you' brings to mind:] You never...told me. What to call you. [at least...he doesn't remember it. lots of mention of 'many names,' and he wasn't really in the right headspace to put a name to memory then.]
...Did you?
no subject
amaterasu regards where the seedlings are, either in little packages, or wraps . . . hm, she'll take this one, whatever it was, for her own project while blue made his own. it was a random choice, by smell, but worry not, little seedlings . . . they'll come back for you!
"so much choosing to be had today, hm?" ]
no subject
...Ammy, then. [since it was the first one she spoke, and the last one sounds a bit rude.
she is right, though: many choices today... Blue decides to just pick the seedling closest to his hand. first name, first seedling. easy.]

”first, we shall soften the beds. fluff up the dirt, the way you would a pillow for your head, or a bed for your body.”
the way she has to do this is— well, it’s much easier to do it on the ground, in this case, or a larger bed. perhaps she could leave this pot for his next? she needed something larger, for her paws.
well— this one should do the trick. a tray-like dirt bed at ground level. amaterasu drags it over the same way, teeth first, and once it’s close enough to blue for them to work together, she begins pawing at her tray with a delicate swiftness. no digging wildly, as much as she . . . would like . . . her wagging tail may be telling a tale.
”who would not like a soft, cloudy bed to rest in?” ]
no subject
definitely something he didn't expect he'd ever be doing. it's a shame he had been long asleep when the younger Mu generations began to learn to cultivate the harsh red soil of Nazca, to coax them to yield true, natural plants and food - something he and the other elders hadn't had taste of before.]
no subject
clasping her chosen seedling between her front teeth, as delicate as holding an egg against her canines, she returns to the hole and drops it in. hanging on the edge, she gives the seed a little encouraging push by her nose— now completely dirty.
”then put it to bed.” ]
no subject
while making that hole his fingers pressed together:] Can you tell? If...they're content or not. Where they're planted.
no subject
”they’ll tell you themselves! when they’ve broken through their beds to give you their hellos as a sapling. don’t forget to tuck yours in.” ]
no subject
quietly:] That's the first time...I've ever done that. All the greenery of Shangri-la...was synthetic.
no subject
she seems perplexed in the way she lifts her head and perks her pointed ears high. even the shake she gives to free her snout of the dirt is mildly delayed.
"your plants were not alive?" ]
no subject
he shakes his head.] No. They were synthetic. Designed to replicate the look and feel of terrestrial grass, but...it's not the same.
[no dirt, either.]
no subject
”of course, of course. there is no way to imitate life. there is too much involved! a soul, energy— it is hard to imagine something synthetic being capable of recreating something so special.
disregard the fact that i was once summoned through stone. hm, in fact— it is not the same thing. stone is quite natural. ” ]

no subject
"where is your earth?" ]
no subject
[instead of wiping his hands clean, he just lets them rest palms-up in his lap.]
We were searching... My people and I. Traveling the stars. Looking for it. That's the one place...we might be truly safe and free. Our Terra. We dream of it, all of us...just as humans do. Our homeland.
no subject
"what is lost may always be found."
a pause. she wanted to get somewhere with that. oh, yes, as she buried the seed, or rather, tucked it in: "i have a dear friend who is from the moon, you know. his name is waka, of the moon tribe. very . . . advanced people, with advanced technologies far greater than the mortal plain— and prophetic gifts. they remind me of your tellings." ]
no subject
Mankind left Terra centuries ago. [he picks up one of the seedlings, waiting for Ammy's snoot to make a new hole before dropping it in for her.] And Mu...people like myself...we were begotten from those humans. Three hundred years we've hidden and searched...trying to find home while the humans try to exterminate us.
If there are any people left there...even on the moon...I hope they're kind. That they'll welcome my people there. It's been so long.
no subject
"i hope your efforts are soon rewarded, blue. they may not come at the time we would like or expect, but they will come. this, i can assure you."
and with a look down at the little bed of planted seeds they're creating, her tail begins to wag again: "look how cute they are." ]
no subject
To my eyes, I only see little mounds of dirt. Can you see more beneath? Their lives.
no subject
she would have made them bloom, or plant flowers of her own with the dip of her brush— but no, not this bed. this bed, she wants to see grow, especially when they have the capacity to.
—okay, maybe just one. a different bloom, a senpai with bright yellow petals that begins to rise and open to the moonlight as soon as she dips celestial ink into the dirt.
”and i imagine how they would look, too, once they’re outside. adorable.” ]
no subject
What you do...and what you feel. They're very good, Ammy. [it's like being seated next to a very fuzzy, friendly heat lamp.]
no subject
”that means i am doing my job correctly. good.”
but there is a touch to her thoughts that brings out something . . . very pleased.
”you are always welcomed to this warmth, young blue.”.]
no subject
I haven't been called young...in a very long time. How strange. [but not terrible.]
we can start wrapping up soon maybe!
