[ The unspoken question: have you been granted powers from your bloodtype?
She's happy to let Lexi look around while she moves to the kitchen to pull out some cups and plates. ]
I feel like we have the sort of people here who could tell us if that were the case... [ She frowns a little and sets the dishes down on the table before moving to the refrigerator and pulling out a carafe of iced tea. ] It might be that we're hoping science has an answer to something that is simply just... magical in nature.
Is iced tea alright?

[she has, but she's only gotten one of them to work and that was a total fluke borne of panic. she's spent an hour staring at her Omni, trying to move it with her mind, Orville snuffling reassuringly on her shoulder.
she loves the chance to have a look around at the houses of other people, the vast majority of her time has been spent in the Howards' split-level which was decorated in the late nineties and hasn't been updated since]
Maybe? Probably. Someone would have thought to check the constellations, right? [and she watches curiously] Well, magic would explain why we're squids when we show up here? And how we apparently have total blood transfusions with no needle marks? Mine's weird, it's like black glitter.
Yeah! Yeah, that's fine.
so sorry for the delay!
[ Sersi already has enough on her plate, she thinks, with the powers she was created with. She doesn't really need to add anything else to the mix- and apparently this place thought the same thing and neglected to give her a blood type that would be anything interesting.
With the tea in hand, she grabs a couple of pastries she bought in town and walks back over to the table to set everything down. ]
Magic could very well answer most of this place's mysteries... I'm afraid mine isn't anything as exciting as yours.
it's okay! RL and such happen and are > RP!
[for Lexi, super-powers were something out of one of her dad's comic books. or out of a movie. she wants desperately to explore her new abilities, but they seem to really do a number on someone else's mind, which she was afraid of trying unless someone else was really, truly okay with it.
and ooooh, is that a chocolate croissant she sees?]
Really? But yours, I'm sure what you can do is really cool?

History's full of little nuggets like that- [ Get it? Gold? Nuggets? She smiles a little at her own joke.
That absolutely is a chocolate croissant. ] But you're right, it's nice to have actual proof that something is achievable.
[ Sersi blinks a little at the insistence that her blood and powers are just as cool- she smiles a little and shakes her head. ] I'm what they call a warmblood here. No powers gifted from my squid transformation unfortunately.
[ She pauses, almost as though considering if she should reveal her powers from home, but the honest truth is that she hasn't been hiding them... she just hasn't been flaunting them. ]
I do have some from home, though: matter transmutation. So it's not like I'm completely without powers of some sort.

and she got it, giggling] Preferably those made of real gold.
[yay!] Yeah. And, I don't know...I've always been good at school, maybe a little too good because I still have no idea what I'll major in in college. And I know I still have plenty of time, but I'm in all of the AP classes and the teachers are already putting on some pressure.
[and she looks curious] Really? I hadn't heard about that.
[it's fascinating to hear about that] Matter...transmutation? So, changing it from one thing into another thing?

[ But when it turns to her powers she already has... Sersi nods her head a little before looking around for something to use for an example-
A napkin. She picks it up and holds it carefully in her hands before changing it from the paper to a small pile of rose petals. ] Yes- exactly that.

[which she's entirely unsure about. what does she have to offer? other than knowing how to keep one's head down and try to avoid the worst of the worst. and hide within herself to the point where she had trouble defining who she was as a person.
and Lexi makes a little delighted noise at watching what Sersi can do] That is so cool.
no subject
The reaction to her powers makes Sersi smile even more as she passes the rose petals over to the girl. ] Here, these should help you barter for some things. I'm grateful that I came here with my powers in tact... as I think they're beneficial to improving the quality of life here. In small ways, but sometimes it's small steps that make the greatest impact.

she takes them eagerly, lifting them up for a good sniff first] Yeah. Definitely! Books. Books and comics and manga. I'm trying to open a used bookstore. For a combination of a quality of life thing because every town needs a bookstore and because the library doesn't exactly have, I don't know, "Interview with the Vampire." And your powers are really, really cool. I've never heard of anyone being able to do that, at least not for real. Movies, yes, real life? No way.
no subject
Quality of life, especially somewhere like here, is very important... Do you need any help setting up?
[ She smiles a little bashfully. ] Thank you, really. Powers are... well, they're not common but they're not uncommon back on my Earth. Lots of superheroes.
no subject
and that offer takes Lexi by surprise] Yeah. Yeah, sure! There's going to be a lot of work to get the store ready, especially since it's going to be in a house, not like a Barnes & Noble or anything. And, um...I'm going to need a couple of employees since I plan for it to be open seven days a week?
[and Lexi grins] Well, they're completely uncommon where I come from. It's all stuff out of pop culture.
no subject
I'd love to help with set up... and while I don't know that I'm the best candidate for employment, if you're ever in a pickle? I'd be more than happy to help with a shift here or there.
[ She laughs a little. ] I think there's quite a bit of it in our pop culture too... the only difference is it also shows up in our non-fiction and documentaries.
no subject
That would be so great, thank you. I really appreciate any help I can get for anything.
Wow. It sounds so cool, that not only are super-powers a thing where you're from, they get documentaries. I'm trying to imagine Richard Attenborough narrating one and it's such a wild thing to imagine.
