I knew it.

[ she tucks her popcorn close to her and far away from him. but it doesn't last for long. slowly, katherine rights herself and sits the popcorn in her lap—an easy enough distance for him to reach it—and eyes him playfully. ]

You can have some... for a compliment.

( stefan reaches over to grab some popcorn while saying: )

I like the way you hold popcorn.

( she said a compliment, she never said it had to be a good compliment. )

[manipulative]

[ she rolls her eyes. while she's tempted to pull the popcorn away from him, she keeps it on her lap as she grabs a handful and pops it into her mouth. ]

Go on.

[ surely, he's not going to be satisfied with only a few kernels. ]

[prescind]

Go on?

( he laughs and shakes his head. )

Aren't we going to watch a movie? I would hate to distract us from that.

[manipulative]

[ she shakes her head. sitting up a little straighter, she pouts and slowly moves the popcorn away from him. ]

We can watch the movie after you've complimented me a few hundred more times.

[ it's a cinematic requirement, after all. ]

Katherine.

( he sighs and shakes his head. he wasn't going to compliment her a few hundred more times. )

I love you and I adore you. Can we please watch the movie?

( those were the only compliments she was going to get for awhile. )

[manipulative]

[ she narrows her eyes at him before she hugs the popcorn to her chest and slips down against the cushion. she looks snug and very much unlike her prim and proper and rather controlled self. ]

Come on. I don't have all day.

[ she smiles up at him and laughs. ]

( he eyes her, trying to make sure she's relenting before he chuckles and slouches down beside her. )

What are we watching? Anything good?

[manipulative]

[ she shrugs. ]

I don't know. I'm old; I don't remember.

[ except she does. she chose the movie and she hid the movie from him and his salty fingers. ]

Turn it on and we'll see.

[prescind]

I have to give the compliments and turn on the movie. I'm so used and abused here.

( it takes so much effort to push play on the remote and curl down with her. )

Please tell me this movie has some action, at least.

[manipulative]

It has a lot of action.

[ an incredible amount of action. while it's not a bruce willis movie, it's rear window—one of katherine's favourite movies. to her, it has everything anyone could want—action, drama, suspense, good clothes.

she turns her head away from stefan and whistles loudly. ] Aleksander! Come here!

[ the house is quiet for a moment before a thunderstorm of footsteps can be heard upstairs. ]

Inviting the fluffball along? I'm going to end up sitting on the floor.

( aleksander wasn't a puppy anymore. he was a big, fluffy dog who liked to stretched out and loved his mother. )

You'll be cuddling with someone who has dog breath.

[manipulative]

I cuddle you all the time.

[ katherine smiles and quickly kisses his arm to soothe him. aleksander bounds down the stairs, dog breath in tow. ]

He can sit on you, can't he? We can make it a family thing.

[prescind]

I guess I don't really have much of a choice considering he's going to be here in like five seconds.

( he grunts when aleksander jumps up on him and grimaces. the dog was damn heavy. )

Ow.

[manipulative]

[ katherine smiles and preens at aleksander. ruffling his fur, she takes great enjoyment out of how he settles his tush down onto stefan's lap and tilts his head to the side for a little scratch. ]

That's my good boy. [ she coos. ] Such a good boy. Get comfortable; the movie's about to start.

[prescind]

My legs are going to be asleep in a few minutes.

( aleksander wasn't a light dog. he was a big boy and he has a lot of muscle. stefan tries to get more comfortable, stretching as he does. )

I like that you're telling the dog and not me to get comfortable.

[manipulative]

I have my priorities in order.

[ kissing aleksander's cheek, she does nothing to assist stefan with the great lump of fur that sits astride his thighs. in fact, she settles back into the couch and tugs her popcorn onto her lap and begins to eat from the bowl comfortably. ]

This is very enjoyable.

[prescind]

I'm never watching a movie or making you popcorn or cuddling you again.

( he's sure he will do all those things but he's going to pout about it now and make no move to nudge aleksander away.

the pout was definitely going to remain though since he could barely see the movie through the fluff. )

[manipulative]

[ katherine laughs loudly at that and pats aleksander as he lowers himself to properly lie across stefan's lap. his paws brush against the side of katherine's thigh. ]

Good boy.

[ while she may look towards the television, she doesn't try and hide her rather devilish smirk. ]

[prescind]

You just remember you said that.

( because now it was on and he was going to actually attempt to not cuddle her and see what she did. )

Whatever comes next, you brought it on yourself.

[manipulative]

[ she snickers. ]

Sure, Stefan. I can barely hear you through all of this fur.

[ by scratching underneath aleksander's chin, that prompts the dog to shift a little on stefan's lap. ]

( oh, just keep talking, katherine. keep going, he's waiting for it and he's gonna definitely challenge her. )

I guess I'll see you in two hours.

( after the movie, that is. )

[manipulative]

If you survive.

[ she chuckles a little evilly to herself. scratching the top of aleksander's head, she most definitely encourages him to stay on stefan's lap and stop the circulation of blood to his legs.

kindly, though, she does hold out the popcorn for him to enjoy before his timely death. ]

If I survive?

( he eyes but does take the popcorn with a quiet sigh, resting his other hand on aleksander's back. )

I'll survive. You'd be upset if I didn't.

( he hopes he survives. he doesn't know how it's going to be with two hours of the dog on his lap but he's gonna try.

his legs fall asleep after the first hour but aleksander isn't making to move so he just suffers until the movie finally ends. )

[manipulative]

[ when the movie's end credits roll, katherine gently places her hand on what she can of his thigh. aleksander's surprisingly remained laying across his legs. he's shifted and seems to be resting most of his weight against stefan's stomach. ]
