purposefully thumping down the stairs, katherine skips towards the kitchen before she stops and takes a great step back. turning her back to the kitchen's entrance, she singsongs, ] Am I allowed to enter?
[ considering how some of stefan's surprises have resulted in her being banned, she very kindly wants to ensure she has permission. god forbid she walks in and she's ignored the sign at the doorframe that says NO KATHERINES ALLOWED. ]
no subject
( shocking, he's shocked. but he's smiling as he steps over to her and takes her hand, giving her a tug to make her come into the kitchen. )
You can come in. I've taken down the No Entrance for Katherines sign.
no subject
letting him lead her into the kitchen that is oftentimes a free zone for her to enter, she does make a point of looking around in search of a sign that says "JUST KIDDING". as stefan's been letting his hair down, he's more than capable of being cheeky and a pain in the ass. ]
Do you have an E.T.A. on when those signs might go back up? I like to be prepared.
no subject
( he pulls her close to him, presses a kiss to the side of her head and then swings her around to point her towards the flowers he'd gotten her. )
Happy Mother's Day.
no subject
Don't think this means that I'll forget you claimed I complain and fuss. [ although she regards him sternly, she smiles brightly and scrunches up her nose happily. she glides towards the flowers, walking backwards for a moment to tell him matter-of-factly: ] Which I do not do. I am polite and point out things that you do wrong, which includes many things.
no subject
( it was okay to admit that, katherine, especially because it was the truth. but he's going to let you have this because it's mother's day. )
But, you're allowed to do that.

she can only hope that what brings amos to her front door is a spontaneous need to go bar hopping... or he's simply lost and requires some direction back home. it's not lost on wanda that amos has been reciprocating and reaching out in response to her incredibly annoying niggling over the last few months.
when she opens the door, she narrows her eyes playfully and teases, ] You do not look like the postman.
no subject
( thank god. what a boring job that would be. )
You expecting something from the mailman or something?
no subject
[ she's not.
wanda sighs dramatically and shakes her head. ]
And yet, all I have here is you. [ she smiles as she leans against her door. ] So disappointing.
no subject
( he doesn't want to bother her especially if today's hard but he hadn't wanted it to go by without saying something to her. )
I know it's Mother's Day today so I just wanted to stop by and tell you that. Tell you, uh, Happy Mother's Day. That's all.
no subject
tears prick her eyes. for the first time in a long time, wanda isn't sure what to do.
impulsively, she steps out from her doorframe. resting her hands on his shoulders, she lifts up on the tips of her toes and kisses his cheek. when wanda steps away, she wipes the back of her hand against her eye and smiles wetly, ducking her gaze away from him. ]
Thank you.

that's hardly fair.
especially when he's gone to the trouble of fetching their drinks and popcorn, she thinks it's only right that he doesn't have the blanket.
she tugs the blanket up to her chest to her chin and smiles at him. ]
There's no room for you. How sad.
no subject
( he picks them back up and starts to walk away because two can play at that game. )
Guess it's movie night alone for you.
no subject
[ while still slouching against the couch (being without popcorn and drinks and stefan isn't enough to see her rise from the comfort of the cushions, unfortunately), she clicks her fingers sharply at him. ]
Get back here. I might be able to spare some blanket for you.
no subject
( and just because you click your fingers doesn't mean he's gonna come back either. )
So, might or will?
no subject
Hurry up. I'm getting cold.
[ there's your answer, stef. ]

what she doesn't realise—or what she perhaps does, deep down—is that it changes her. it makes her lighter. it makes her happier. while her home doesn't shift into the interior of westview, the air within it brightens and lightens. the grief that had been at her back door is gone temporarily.
when wanda opens her door (a little delayed in comparison to how she's often there before he even lifts his hand to knock), she smiles at him easily. everything about her is lighter… except for her hair. it's as dark as night and is no longer a light fire.
she presses her hand to her mouth sheepishly. ]
I forgot, didn't I?
no subject
Yeah, but that's fine. Were you asleep?
( usually she knows he's coming and makes a point of telling him that she'd known he was there and was just waiting for him to stop being slow. )
I can come back.
no subject
[ yes, she had been asleep. her dark hair's a little tangled and her cheek's a little red, but wanda is wide awake and here now. wide awake and... well, not as powerful as she once was. ]
The boys are out the back and will are due to break something very soon, so...
[ she opens her door wide in an invitation for him to step inside. ]
no subject
( he steps inside but he sounds confused, glancing at her as he does. )
You have other people over?
no subject
[ with a gentle flick of her fingers, the door closes behind him. she walks through her foyer, expecting he'll follow. ]
My sons? [ she smiles toothily. as she leads him through the hallway to the back of the house, a plethora of photo frames sit on small tables and are pinned to the walls of a happy family: a mother and her two boys. only a few of those photographs had been there before. ]
They're out the back. Most likely getting into so much trouble.
