( he grabs for the popcorn, trying to use his longer reach to snag it. )

I've been witness to your very violent rampages, Katherine. You're very good at them.

[ nope.

she twists around so that he'll have to lay over her to even reach the popcorn. katherine's partly regretting tucking herself so tightly in the blanket; it's restricting her movement to scurry away. ]

You are a liar.

[ she ensures to twist away from him and does her best to stifle her laugh. ]

I've known you for centuries! You've gone on rampages. Maybe you don't call them that but they're still rampages.

( katherine, don't make him lay on top of you to grab the popcorn because he will. )

[ but maybe that's exactly what she wants???

katherine grits her teeth and shakes her head. ] You've only known me for half of your life, if a little more. What you know is a lie.

[ then, she tilts her head up haughtily and declares, ] I'm a lady.

You are a lady.

( and he leans over and tries to snag the popcorn from her, laughing. )

But you're a very vicious lady when you want to be.

[ katherine preens at the compliment. anyone else might scoff and feel offended, but katherine... she likes being called vicious, especially by stefan. despite being happy with that, she does keep her body twisted away from him out of pure spite. ]

And do you enjoy that viciousness?

[ there really is only one answer here. ]

When it's directed at me, yes.

( and when it's directed at others too and she's not trying to take out people he cares about. but that's in the past. )

I do enjoy it.

[ she laughs, flushing lightly, and smacks him lightly on the chest. still keeping the popcorn far away from him, she regards him with narrowed eyes. ]

Are you saying that just so I will share my popcorn with you?

Yes, that's exactly why I'm saying it. That's the only thing I want.

( he makes a face at her. )

If you didn't have popcorn, I wouldn't be complimenting you.

I knew it.

[ she tucks her popcorn close to her and far away from him. but it doesn't last for long. slowly, katherine rights herself and sits the popcorn in her lap—an easy enough distance for him to reach it—and eyes him playfully. ]

You can have some... for a compliment.

( stefan reaches over to grab some popcorn while saying: )

I like the way you hold popcorn.

( she said a compliment, she never said it had to be a good compliment. )

[ she rolls her eyes. while she's tempted to pull the popcorn away from him, she keeps it on her lap as she grabs a handful and pops it into her mouth. ]

Go on.

[ surely, he's not going to be satisfied with only a few kernels. ]

Go on?

( he laughs and shakes his head. )

Aren't we going to watch a movie? I would hate to distract us from that.

[ she shakes her head. sitting up a little straighter, she pouts and slowly moves the popcorn away from him. ]

We can watch the movie after you've complimented me a few hundred more times.

[ it's a cinematic requirement, after all. ]

( he sighs and shakes his head. he wasn't going to compliment her a few hundred more times. )

I love you and I adore you. Can we please watch the movie?

( those were the only compliments she was going to get for awhile. )

[ she narrows her eyes at him before she hugs the popcorn to her chest and slips down against the cushion. she looks snug and very much unlike her prim and proper and rather controlled self. ]

Come on. I don't have all day.

[ she smiles up at him and laughs. ]

( he eyes her, trying to make sure she's relenting before he chuckles and slouches down beside her. )

What are we watching? Anything good?

[ she shrugs. ]

I don't know. I'm old; I don't remember.

[ except she does. she chose the movie and she hid the movie from him and his salty fingers. ]

Turn it on and we'll see.

I have to give the compliments and turn on the movie. I'm so used and abused here.

( it takes so much effort to push play on the remote and curl down with her. )

Please tell me this movie has some action, at least.

It has a lot of action.

[ an incredible amount of action. while it's not a bruce willis movie, it's rear window—one of katherine's favourite movies. to her, it has everything anyone could want—action, drama, suspense, good clothes.

she turns her head away from stefan and whistles loudly. ] Aleksander! Come here!

[ the house is quiet for a moment before a thunderstorm of footsteps can be heard upstairs. ]

Inviting the fluffball along? I'm going to end up sitting on the floor.

( aleksander wasn't a puppy anymore. he was a big, fluffy dog who liked to stretched out and loved his mother. )

You'll be cuddling with someone who has dog breath.

I cuddle you all the time.

[ katherine smiles and quickly kisses his arm to soothe him. aleksander bounds down the stairs, dog breath in tow. ]

He can sit on you, can't he? We can make it a family thing.

I guess I don't really have much of a choice considering he's going to be here in like five seconds.

( he grunts when aleksander jumps up on him and grimaces. the dog was damn heavy. )

Ow.

[ katherine smiles and preens at aleksander. ruffling his fur, she takes great enjoyment out of how he settles his tush down onto stefan's lap and tilts his head to the side for a little scratch. ]

That's my good boy. [ she coos. ] Such a good boy. Get comfortable; the movie's about to start.

My legs are going to be asleep in a few minutes.

( aleksander wasn't a light dog. he was a big boy and he has a lot of muscle. stefan tries to get more comfortable, stretching as he does. )

I like that you're telling the dog and not me to get comfortable.
