[ katherine doesn't bother to try and untangle herself from his arms. she leans back against him as she shakes her head incredulously. this is her young old man. so hip. so on the line.

she hums thoughtfully as she feigns confusion. ]

What is your password?

( he knows why and he's not going to let you snoop, katherine. just because you can't find his journals doesn't mean you get to look at his phone. )

You don't need to know that.

[ rather than explain herself, katherine considers what his password could be. "ilovejournals1"? no. that's a little too on the nose and something damon would pick for him instead. ]

Is it "I love Katherine" but you wrote "L-U-V" instead?

[ she snickers and scrunches up her nose. stefan's old enough to possibly think "password" is a good password. ]

Nope.

( you would never guess his password, katherine. she might think him kind of a luddite but he knew how to keep his things protected. )

You can take as many guesses as you want but you're never gonna hit on it so I'd say save your breath.

[ it's definitely something as obvious and silly as "iluvkaterina1864". if stefan finds he's locked out of his accounts later, well... he has himself to blame. ]

It's Mother's Day, Stefan.

[ she bats her eyelashes at him as sweetly as possible. ]

Don't you want to give me a very nice gift?

There's flowers right there, Katherine.

( you are not getting the password to his phone. that's almost like giving you access to one of his journals. )

And I've gotten breakfast. Is that not a good enough gift for you? Don't make me sad, I got up very early to do this.

[ katherine pouts in mock offence for him. oh, poor baby. what a hard morning he's had doting on her! but, perhaps much to his relief, she does back down on the hunt for his passwords for now. ]

I might forget the password if you sit and have breakfast with me.

[ and dote on her, of course. ]

What do you think I was going to do? Stand here and watch you eat with my arms crossed?

( he offers her his arm and smiles. )

Come on, let's go.

( the five or so feet to the table where the breakfast is laid out. )

[ taking his arm, katherine purses her lips as she does consider what it would be like to have stefan loom over her with his arms crossed against his chest. ]

Would you be wearing a singlet?

[ because that will very much inform her answer. ]

I don't even know what a singlet is.

( but no, he is not going to wear it because he's sure it shows off a bunch of skin and he's not going to do that while he's eating breakfast. )

The answer's no though. I'm going to wear what I have on while we eat. You can picture me in a singlet as your fantasy.

[ katherine takes a seat at the kitchen table and rests her chin on the top of her hands as she eyes him. she hums happily as she gives him a slow once-over. she's very much imagining him shirtless. ]

Can you turn a little to the left, please?

[ it'll help with her fantasy. ]

Would you eat your breakfast?

( he shoves some of the various pastries her way and shakes his head. )

I got this especially for you, got to the bakery early and everything, had to deal with the weird blood stuff that happens all the time. Eat.

Aw.

[ she smiles as she regards him like he's the most attractive thing on this earth. and he is... after george clooney, of course. she bats her eyelashes at him before she lifts her head from her hands and regards her breakfast. ]

My hero. Waking up early, leaving me all to my lonesome just to get me my favourite croissants.

[ and when she does tear that croissant open, she is very, very happy to see that it has a nice chocolate centre. ]

And a building didn't even fall on me.

( no, he will never ever let that go. never. even if she has things she can toss back at him, he's gonna hold onto that one. he picks up a croissant and hides a smile by taking a bite. )

You were snoring so I knew you'd be asleep for awhile.

[ she rolls her eyes. ]

I was not snoring. It's rude to lie, Stefan.

[ and it's rude to bring up the building as much as he does, but she also knows that she won't be able to stop him no matter how hard she tries. best let him have that one.

she takes a big bite of her croissant and wipes the chocolate smearing against the corner of her mouth. ]

I have it on tape, Katherine.

( does he? he might. no, he doesn't but he manages to keep a straight face because he's not going to let on that he doesn't. )

Recorded it so I can let Luca hear it the next time he comes to visit.

[ she chews on her croissant as she observes him. he's going to need to keep that straight face for a while if he wants her to believe he has any recording of what sounds like snoring. ]

So, is this a recent recording?

[ she sucks some chocolate from her thumb. ]

It is.

( he takes a sip of the coffee on the table and nods. )

Very loud. Like a train engine.

Uh huh.

[ she continues to eat her croissant without any care against the slander he's currently participating in. she chews and even dares to speak with her mouth full. ]

Can you imitate it? I'm curious to hear what a train engine sounds like when it comes from you.

I can't. I can't make myself sound that loud.

( that was a nice try, katherine, but it wasn't going to work. he wasn't about to give her any reason to flip this on him. )

I think you're the only one who can make such a sound. It was impressive.

Hm.

[ she's busy enjoying her chocolate croissant, thank you very much. but while she may appear distracted, well... she's not going to let him get the best of her. ]

So, you're lying.

No, I'm not.

( stefan shakes his head. he is lying but he's not going to tell her that. he's not going to give in. )

I don't lie. Not about this.

[ katherine rests her elbow on the table and leans her chin into her open palm. she smiles as she regards him with a playful narrowing of her eyes. while she is very good at reading people (and she knows he's lying), she wants to see if he squirms. ]

Tell me again that you're not lying.

[ she narrows her eyes for effect and scrunches her nose. ]

I'm not lying.

( he smiles at her kindly, doesn't squirm. )

I will admit to lying in the past but I'm not lying, not about this.

Hm.

[ she narrows her eyes even more as she stares at him. he's definitely lying. katherine knows he's lying. stefan is a poor liar, even though he's not that bad of an actor.

she sighs and sits back against her chair. ]

Well, if you say you're not lying, then I suppose I have to believe you. I do snore. [ she regards him with an arrogant smile. ] Like a lady.
