( stefan leans forward, tapping his fingers against his forearm before he shakes his head. )

[ she's going to punch him in his square forehead so hard. ]

And if I actually choose not to spend the day with Aleksander? Will you finally tell me?

[ she's still going to spend the day with aleksander... she'll just call him to join in on their plans. ]

( stefan pretends to think about it, tilting his head one way and then to the other before he shakes his head. )

[ which... she will. because he is their dog-son and aleksander is cute and sits on stefan's feet.

That's what's started this whole holding out on me.

( he smiles slowly at her. )

So, what's it gonna be?

[ she purses her lips as she makes a show of considering her answer. ]

I won't spend the day with Aleksander. [ she smiles smugly. ] I'll spend the night with him.

[ all snug in all that fur. ]

I guess I'll sleep on the couch.

( where she would inevitably join him because whatever she might say, she likes sleeping with him. )

It's a nice couch, I'll stretch out since you'll have the bed.

[manipulative]

You're so considerate.

[ she blows him a kiss to tease him. ]

But why are you talking about tonight when it's early in the morning on Mother's Day and you, by your own rules, have me all day until Aleksander has me all night?

( he doesn't really have a reason so he shrugs. )

Because you'd let me go on and on without calling me out until just now.

[manipulative]

[ she chuckles. ]

So, it's my fault that I'm so distracting to you. Is that it?

[ while katherine does enjoy it when stefan squirms, no one can say she doesn't throw him a kind bone when needed. ]

Yes, it's your fault. It's all your fault.

( tsk tsk, katherine. )

You're always distracting to me.

[manipulative]

Hm. [ pressing her lips together, she nods. ] That's good to know.

[ and fair. if she wasn't distracting, that would be a problem. but what she doesn't want to be is distracting from today just yet. ]

So. What are we doing today before I'm whisked away by the dog? [ she smiles widely. ] Are we going to walk him together?

Probably, yes. I don't think we can ignore him just because we're doing things together.

( aleksander was a good dog but he was still a good dog who needed to go outside. )

After that, I don't know. I figured we could sit in the swing for a little while, maybe go into town to eat, easy things like that. Nothing too over the top.

[manipulative]

[ katherine smiles at the mention of the swing. her swing—the one that he built for her after her harping on about it ad nauseam. she's so glad it's here in the trench. ]

That sounds like a lot of fun.

[ despite being one for grand gestures, she really doesn't need much. good company, some good stories… and she's set. ]

Maybe we could bring a nice blanket and make it a people-watching show.

( yeah, they could do that. the porch swing was a good place to rest, to relax, but they didn't get a lot of people coming by that they could gossip about. )
