( he pulls her close to him, presses a kiss to the side of her head and then swings her around to point her towards the flowers he'd gotten her. )

[ katherine scoffs and opens her mouth, but then he's being a romantic and saying the m-word and she's melting into a puddle of goo right before him. ]

Don't think this means that I'll forget you claimed I complain and fuss. [ although she regards him sternly, she smiles brightly and scrunches up her nose happily. she glides towards the flowers, walking backwards for a moment to tell him matter-of-factly: ] Which I do not do. I am polite and point out things that you do wrong, which includes many things.

You complain and you fuss.

( it was okay to admit that, katherine, especially because it was the truth. but he's going to let you have this because it's mother's day. )

But, you're allowed to do that.

[ she cocks her brow and regards him for a moment before she turns her back to him and smells her flowers. she brushes her hair behind her ears to keep it from falling and butchering a flower. ]

These smell lovely.

They're supposed to.

( he steps up closer to her and presses a kiss to her hair. )

How are you feeling today? I know that sometimes it can be hard but I know it's gotten easier with being able to see Nadia sometimes.

[ katherine sighs quietly. peering down at the flowers, she very gently touches a petal. today would be a better day—a much fuller day—if nadia and luca were here. but she holds hope that there will be a time when she can celebrate this day she used to treat as any other day that held no special importance to her with all of them. ]

It would be nice if she was here. If both of them were.

[ she smiles fondly. ]

I'd like to know what they'd do, just once.

I know.

( he slides his arms around her waist and brings her back against him, pressing his lips to her neck and sighing. )

I'd like to think that Nadia's got something that she'd teach Luca to do. Maybe get you flowers or a new pair of shoes.

Ooo.

[ a pair of shoes, of course, would be lovely... but katherine knows that's something stefan needs to bring her, not her children.

she wraps her arms around the back of his hands. ]

Maybe breakfast in bed... where they make a mess in the kitchen you have to hurriedly clean up.

Maybe. And maybe those shoes would be tennis shoes and you would have to wear them because Luca picked them out.

( and she couldn't say no to his cute face. it was illegal. )

And then Nadia would take a million pictures to commemorate the moment.

What would you do?

[ despite encouraging it all, of course. ]

You wouldn't dare blow up those photos and display them around the house now, would you?

( he gives her a squeeze and then smiles. )

I'd make a photo album on the internet.

On the internet.

[ she repeats it incredulously. if he puts it up on the internet, he can store his obituary in the album along with it, too. ]

I didn't realise a man of your age knew how to surf it.

You're older than me and I see you on your phone all the time.

( not...all the time. but she definitely know show to use it. )

Just because I prefer writing in journals doesn't mean that I don't know to use the Googles.

( that was on purpose. )

And you know how to go on the line?

[ she cocks her brow. the internship was made for him. she's dating vincent vaughn who's unable to wrap his head around being "online" without the "the". ]

I do. I just have to wait for the phone to connect and then I put in my name and password and there we are.

( he's not that old, katherine. he was absolutely going to put these pictures on the internet now. )

[ katherine doesn't bother to try and untangle herself from his arms. she leans back against him as she shakes her head incredulously. this is her young old man. so hip. so on the line.

she hums thoughtfully as she feigns confusion. ]

( he knows why and he's not going to let you snoop, katherine. just because you can't find his journals doesn't mean you get to look at his phone. )

[ rather than explain herself, katherine considers what his password could be. "ilovejournals1"? no. that's a little too on the nose and something damon would pick for him instead. ]

Is it "I love Katherine" but you wrote "L-U-V" instead?

[ she snickers and scrunches up her nose. stefan's old enough to possibly think "password" is a good password. ]

Nope.

( you would never guess his password, katherine. she might think him kind of a luddite but he knew how to keep his things protected. )

You can take as many guesses as you want but you're never gonna hit on it so I'd say save your breath.

[ it's definitely something as obvious and silly as "iluvkaterina1864". if stefan finds he's locked out of his accounts later, well... he has himself to blame. ]

It's Mother's Day, Stefan.

[ she bats her eyelashes at him as sweetly as possible. ]

There's flowers right there, Katherine.

( you are not getting the password to his phone. that's almost like giving you access to one of his journals. )

And I've gotten breakfast. Is that not a good enough gift for you? Don't make me sad, I got up very early to do this.

[ katherine pouts in mock offence for him. oh, poor baby. what a hard morning he's had doting on her! but, perhaps much to his relief, she does back down on the hunt for his passwords for now. ]

I might forget the password if you sit and have breakfast with me.

[ and dote on her, of course. ]

What do you think I was going to do? Stand here and watch you eat with my arms crossed?

( he offers her his arm and smiles. )

Come on, let's go.

( the five or so feet to the table where the breakfast is laid out. )

[ taking his arm, katherine purses her lips as she does consider what it would be like to have stefan loom over her with his arms crossed against his chest. ]

Would you be wearing a singlet?

[ because that will very much inform her answer. ]

I don't even know what a singlet is.

( but no, he is not going to wear it because he's sure it shows off a bunch of skin and he's not going to do that while he's eating breakfast. )

The answer's no though. I'm going to wear what I have on while we eat. You can picture me in a singlet as your fantasy.
