You said it's been ten years, how could you have not? You're happier now and even back then other people were helping more.

All I ever did was cause you more pain. [He drops his voice to a whisper.] So much you left me to die.

[The worst part is knowing Obi-Wan was right to do that.]

[jedies]

[ ah. there's a lengthy pause at first before obi-wan speaks up. ]

Anakin, we are both here because we're not simply the people we were in the past. I am not just that Obi-Wan just like you're no longer that Anakin. We've come far and made different decisions as well.

Do you want to cause me pain?

[facultative]

I've never wanted to.

[It was true even at his worst.]

[jedies]

I know. And I believe you.

[facultative]

But it doesn't change that I have.

And I'm only here because I thought I could find something that could change things.

[Even when he had good intentions it didn't work out and now that he chose this due to his selfishness... it felt pointless.]

[jedies]

You can still change things for yourself here. And there still may be hope for that.

[facultative]

You've already proven there isn't.

[jedies]

If that were true, I would have left a long time ago.

I had to stop a Sith Lord, Anakin. Someone who helped end the Republic. And the Jedi.

[facultative]

And you knew about it! You couldn't stop it. No matter what I decide the moment I get the chance I'm still going to do all that.

[He closes his eyes and takes a shaky breath.]

I want to believe you. But how can I?

[jedies]

[ obi-wan sighs. ]

That's up to you, Anakin. It was the hardest thing I had to do. But I don't believe you're the same person I fought then.

You have to decide if you are or not.

[facultative]

[He presses his palms against his eyes as he curls over again. Once he had Obi-Wan's undivided attention. Now there were so many people vying for his time and he was even competing against himself now. No wonder it had come to this.]

...Is it easier the second time?

[jedies]

[ a brief pause. ]

The second time?

[facultative]

[Softly.] Letting go.

[jedies]

[ ah. obi-wan looks pensive. ]

I wasn't really letting go.

[facultative]

But you're always with other people and even now you're tired of me already.

I know I'm not moving as fast as you'd like... You make it sound easy, but it's not. [His voice wavers.] And I don't know when I'll be forced to live it. If not this time, what about the next?

[jedies]

[ obi-wan blinks. ]

Of course I'm not tired of you, Anakin. I'm simply making friends. Getting to know people. That's all.

And I don't mind that you're not moving fast. I'm willing to be patient as long as you're willing to keep trying.

[facultative]

[He doesn't believe it, but Obi-Wan is being kind and to point out the lie would only further the wedge between them.

His head bobs in a shaky nod as he rubs at the tears welling up.]

Luke doesn't think so.

[jedies]

[ ah. he's not terribly surprised. ]

Luke doesn't have the full picture. He doesn't know.

[facultative]

Neither do you.

[jedies]

I have a better idea than most.

[facultative]

Do you?

[Because he sure doesn't. He can see why he made certain decisions, but he can't trace how he came to those conclusions. Maybe they were right and he was too old to train.]

Because I told the Council. I didn't choose him.

[jedies]

[ obi-wan is patient. ]

I don't know, I ended up in the dream!
