( that's really not like her and stefan frowns, coming to stand beside her. )

[ closing the cupboard door, she turns to face him with an amused smile. she chuckles. ] I've forgotten one thing, Stef. Everyone forgets one thing from time to time.

[ while she may be perfect most of the time, even katherine allows herself to have flaws every now and then. ]

( she does remember that she'd called aleksander 'dog', right? )

That's two more things than you usually forget.

[ katherine turns to face him and rests her hand gently against his cheek. she tilts her head to the side and smiles at him. ]

I like that you think I'm perfect all the time, but sometimes even I like to have flaws so I can have more in common with you.

You remembered the dog's name yet?

( you're deflecting, katherine, even if that feels very nice. )

Or why you're in the kitchen?

I'm in the kitchen because I wanted to get something from the kitchen.

[ and she doesn't remember what that is, which is completely normal! withdrawing her hand, she sidesteps him and walks away from the cupboards to deem that this little excursion is coming to a close. ]

It's not like I haven't forgotten why I've walked into a room before.

And what about the dog?

( she remembered his name yet? )

[ katherine squatted and brushed her fingers through the dog's fur. she scritched his ear as she turned to stefan and cocked her brow. ]

What about him? [ if she's touching the dog, clearly there's no problem here. ] He seems pretty happy now.

Do you remember his name?

( because his name is not dog, katherine. )

[ she scoffs. ] Of course, I remember his name.

[ as soon as she smiled, she furrowed her brows. this was the moment where she would tell stefan. but as she looked down at the dog, she couldn't recall it. she couldn't even think of a possible name...

she narrowed her eyes slightly as she kept her gaze on the dog. it'll come to her... it'll come to her...

when she spoke again, her voice was measured and quiet. ] I seem to not remember it right now.

( no, it wasn't...really okay. he frowns and steps closer to her, pressing a hand to her back. )

Aleksander. Does that ring a bell?

[ katherine should say yes. she should nod and exclaim that, yes, yes, of course! that name rings such a bell. she'd only just temporarily forgotten.

instead, she furrows her brows as she mulls it over. she doesn't remember that name. there isn't so much as a twinge in her gut to inform her that she knows that name.

she slowly shakes her head. ] No.

Okay, it's all right.

( that's...concerning. usually he's the one being afflicted with things here, not her. )

You don't feel human, do you?

[ she scoffs. ] No.

[ that feels like something that she should say with a passion. she doesn't feel human! except, well... what's that supposed to feel like?

she furrows her brows. ] I have no idea how that feels.

( and stefan doesn't really know how to test for that either. he could cut her but he doesn't really want to do that. )

Come on, stop me from hitting you.

( he decides to go for the reflexes, reaching up to try and smack her though without the full force of his strength. )

[ katherine easily blocks him, smacking hard against his hand to stop him from making contact with her. it'd been easy, effortless—and something that was grounded in pure instinct. she hadn't needed to remember how to react. ]

That probably would've worked a lot better if you hadn't warned me.

( good point but she'd still reacted quickly, no flinching, no even moving her body. )

[ she narrows her eyes. ] You're Steven, right?

[ she's quick to snicker and scrunch up her nose. ]

Of course, I remember you, Stefan. [ giving him a once-over, she smirks, ] Kind of hard to forget.

[ what with that square head and all. ]

( so, she doesn't know the dog's name but she knows his name. still concerning but he's not panicking. )

You didn't hit your head or anything, did you?

[ she scoffs. ] No!

[ very casually, katherine lifts her hand to touch the back of her head. she threads her fingers through her hair to try and play it off. ]

Not that I remember.

You could have rolled out of bed and knocked it on the floor.

( but he doesn't think that's it. )

Should we go to the hospital?

I don't need to go to the hospital, Stefan.

[ he's already used up their shared ticket of hospital visits for the year, after all. there's no need to get a headstart next year. ]

I'm fine. [ she shrugs in an attempt to appear just that—fine. ] It's just a temporary thing. Everyone forgets things sometimes.

You remember your daughter's name?

( yes, he's going to ask that and if she hates him, so be it. but, he wants to see how deep this thing goes. )

Or our son?

[ she regards him strangely, although she looks amused.

she chuckles. ] I don't have a child, Stefan. I'm a vampire. We can't have children.

( oh no. his heart lurches and his stomach tightens. )

Katherine, what about —

( no, he shouldn't say something because if she realizes she's forgotten, it might hurt her even more. )
