( frowning, stefan moves to take the shoe off and tosses it aside before he stands up. )

The buckle is fine. I got it off without any trouble. What's going on with you?

[manipulative]

[ katherine rests her hands behind her as she peers up at him. ] Nothing.

[ she purses her lips and shrugs. she feels, well... not that great, actually. when she'd been bent low, she'd felt a little dizzy. now that she's upright and looking at him, well... he's a nice sight to look at. ]

I just felt a little dizzy, I guess. That's what tends to happen when you walk around indecently. [ she smiles at that. ]

You felt dizzy?

( there's something about the way she says it that tells him that she's not being sarcastic or putting him on.

she'd really felt dizzy.

he reaches up and presses a hand to her forehead. )

You feel warm.

[manipulative]

[ katherine rolls her eyes goodnaturedly. ] That would be because I was out all night with you.

[ there's nothing suspicious about having a warm forehead! katherine believes as much, considering she's not batting his hand away or moving away from his touch. ]

I'm fine. Maybe it was something I ate. Not everything can be rainbows and butterflies in the Trench.

[prescind]

Uh, you do realize that you are a very old vampire. So, you wouldn't be affected by something you ate.

( it's always him getting affected. he frowns again and stands up. )

Lay down. I'm going to go change.

[manipulative]

But why?

[ she pouts as she playfully reaches for him, wanting to hook her fingers into the waist of his towel. ]

You're dressed perfectly as you are. In fact, [ she smirks. ] I think this is getting me a little hot and bothered.

[prescind]

Uh uh.

( no no, they weren't doing that. she wasn't going to distract him. he grabs her wrists lightly. )

Not right now. You were just dizzy and that's unusual.

[manipulative]

[ she sighs long and loud. ] It's not that unusual.

[ granted, the last time she felt dizzy, she'd been human, and that hadn't been too long ago. katherine purses her lips as though she's tasted a lemon and looks up at stefan. she taps her fingers against her lips thoughtfully. ]

Maybe there was something in the water.

[ granted, she didn't drink water. ]

Katherine, you're dizzy and you're running a fever. Tell me, when's the last time that happened?

( he thinks he knows the answer to that question but he's going to wait to see if she responds. )

[manipulative]

It's just hot in here.

[ she waves her hand dismissively, but when she sits up straight and looks up at him, katherine lets her shoulders sag in defeat. he won't let this go. sometimes, even she can see where she's defeated.

she mutters, ] Last time I was human.

[prescind]

Yeah.

( there's something wrong here and they both know it. )

Lay down. I'm going to get you some water and something to try and help the fever that I know you have.

[manipulative]

[ katherine pouts, disliking that she's lost this very small and unwinnable game. as she begins to move backward on the bed, she looks at stefan. ]

You're not going to get dressed, are you? I think this look [ she looks him over. ] is very important for my recovery.

[prescind]

Yes, I am going to get dressed.

( that's a nice try, katherine, but he's not going to let you talk him into letting his guard down. )

If you're getting sick then there's something up here. Usually it hits me but this time, it's getting you.

[manipulative]

[ ugh!!! ]

Ugh!

[ she falls back on the bed in disappointment. she'd feel so much better with him dressed the way he is! it's almost like he doesn't want her to feel better! ]

The bad luck never ends! [ without lifting her head, she looks up at him. she sniffs. without the drama, she states: ] I'm okay, you know.

Katherine, if our positions were reversed, what would you be doing?

( he stands up so he can change before he digs around their medicine cabinet for a compress that he can wet with cool water to try and bring her fever down. )

[manipulative]

[ she mutters to herself, ] Definitely not put clothes on.

[ except she would because he wouldn't be feeling like himself. and if there needed to be a trip to the hospital added to the agenda, well...

there won't be. but if their positions were reversed, there would be.

while stefan's busy, she manoeuvres up to the top of the bed and makes it a point to lie on his side. ]

I would be threatening what was making you feel bad. And fluff your pillows.

[prescind]

( it doesn't take stefan that long to change an then he returns with a damp, cool washcloth. he doesn't know exactly what else to do to help her considering she's a vampire and all.

he scoffs when he sees where she is. )

You are bound and determined to try and prove that you're not sick, aren't you? Because you are. I just thought I'd remind you of it.

[manipulative]

I'm not sick!

[ katherine doesn't bother to lift her head off the pillow or her upper body from the bed. ]

Would I look this amazing if I was?

[prescind]

You realize that you're sweating right now.

( probably from the fever. )

You still look good but just wanted to let you know that you can rest and not feel great, Katherine.

[manipulative]

I could be sweating for other reasons, you know.

[ she looks at him rather pointedly. there are plenty of reasons to sweat! wearing too many clothes… someone having the hot water on full blast… stefan existing. ]

If you think I'm sick, shouldn't you be in another room?

[prescind]

If you're sick, I've already gotten whatever it is you have.

( but so far, he feels fine so he thinks he's going to be fine. )

Maybe this time it's just you that's affected when it's typically me. Look at that, finally get to be on the other side of things.

[manipulative]

[ katherine rolls her eyes. ] You don't have to be so cheery about it. It's making me feel nauseous.

[ she pokes her tongue out at him, but remains on the bed with her head against the pillow. she does feel a little unwell, but it's nothing she can't handle. ]

I didn't want you to feel bad about yourself.

[ that's clearly why she got sick. ]

[prescind]

I think you're mistaking my concern for cheerfulness.

( because he is concerned. )

Are you going to complain the entire time you're sick?

[manipulative]

[ she makes a show of considering his question when she and he already know her answer.

she smiles. ] Yes. [ snuggling into his pillow, she scrunches her nose playfully at him and tries her best not to sniff hard. ] And I'm going to enjoy what little I can of it. Hope you don't mind.

[prescind]

Uh huh.

( he rolls his eyes. )

I never complained when I was sick because of this place.
