Oh, look!

[ wanda points dramatically to their right and waves her finger around frantically to get him to look. ]

A bird! See!

[ luckily for her, she makes a bird appear. we don't need to discuss anything further but the bird now, thank you! ]

[rocinantes]

Why am I going to look at a bird?

( even if there is a bird, he doesn't care about birds. )

Unless that bird is carrying something to help us out with the goddamn humming.

[explosion]

[ she huffs in annoyance and smacks his arm lightly. ]

You are a very annoying man. Who doesn't look when someone tells you to look? You were supposed to look!

[ honestly! is this a space thing? do all of the spacemen and women argue pointlessly? now her distraction (however silly) is ruined! ]

[rocinantes]

Why would I look at a bird? Do I look like a fan of birds do you?

( give him something better to look at, wanda, and maybe he'd actually look. )

[explosion]

I don't know.

[ she crosses her arms as she narrows her eyes and makes a show of sizing him up. while it seems she's doing so in jest, wanda does take his question seriously. ]

I think you'd like birds. Maybe butterflies? You can be a little gentle sometimes.

[rocinantes]

( he shrugs. )

Never really paid them much mind, if I'm honest. You don't see a lot of that in space.

[explosion]

Isn't that more reason for you to look when someone tells you to?

[ she cocks her brow with a smile. the humming remains, but this inane conversation makes it easier to ignore it for now. besides, there's no such thing as space butterflies? colour wanda surprised. ]

[rocinantes]

Maybe. Depends on the person.

( he smiles innocently at her. )

Some people like to be tricky.

[explosion]

[ she gasps, pressing her hand against her chest. ]

Are you implying I like to trick you?

[ she does. she loves it. the day she actually tricks him will be a day that goes down in history. ]

Me?

[rocinantes]

Of course I am.

( duh. )

Are you saying you wouldn't?

[explosion]

[ pressing her teeth together, wanda takes a moment to mull it over. and then she smiles and shrugs innocently. ]

We should keep walking. There might be something interesting to see around the corner.

[ wanda really likes her cliffhangers. ]

[rocinantes]

Or there might be something that's going to try and kill us.

( it could go either way. )

Let's hope you're right.

[explosion]

[ patting his bicep, she's quick to remove her hand. she remembers what it had felt like to cradle his bicep on new year's eve.

she smiles at him. ] I will keep you safe. You trust me, don't you?

[rocinantes]

Yeah.

( begrudgingly said and also a little distracted because of that touch to his arm. )

But I can keep myself safe.

[explosion]

Hm. Maybe so.

[ she may nod her agreement, but wanda's cooking something up to test him. she withdraws her hand and crosses her arms against her chest as she walks, glancing at the buildings of this torn-up city. ]

It's nice here.

[rocinantes]

It's nice here?

( he looks up at the buildings and shrugs. guess it's okay. )

It's quiet, at least.

[explosion]

That's why I like it. It's quiet.

[ properly quiet. not just quiet in the sense that there's not a lot of noise. ]

There are a few people here, but it's not as loud as the trench. [ she glances at him before she thinks to clarify, ] Fewer thoughts.

[rocinantes]

Can you block those out?

( he asks, sounding curious. )

The thoughts. Can you block them out easily?

[explosion]

Most of the time.

[ it's gotten easier over the years, although, with her powers growing and her telepathy being included in that, it's become harder to manage. the moment wanda seems to have a grip on it, she loses it as it expands even further in her grasp. if someone had asked her years ago if she thought she would've been able to subconsciously control hundreds of people day in and day out, she'd have laughed.

she tents her fingers before she pulls them apart. ]

I don't make it a point to listen. People are not books you can find in the library. Thoughts should remain private.

[rocinantes]

You ever really wanted to listen to someone? Not saying you did but you just wanted to?

( for whatever reason. he's curious. )

Just wanted to know what they were thinking?

[explosion]

[ she chuckles and smiles sheepishly. is this something she shouldn't admit to? ]

A lot of the time. [ mostly during her time as a hydra volunteer, but saying as much opens a can of worms wanda doesn't particularly want to pay any attention to right now. ]

I used to try and listen to this boy I liked back home to see if he liked me. [ she shrugs. ] He didn't.

[rocinantes]

Stupid boy.

( well, you know, she's attractive. he's not going to be shy about that. )

You ever wanted to listen to me?

[explosion]

[ wanda ignores how her cheeks heat and she clears her throat gently at his question. she considers saying no, of course not, but she's been in his head in a desperate time of need and he had been accepting of that.

she tents her fingers together and makes a point of looking up at a building as though it's dilapidated state is curious. ]

Sometimes.

Why are your cheeks red?
