(open) miyagi-do gathering for new & existing students!
Who: You, you, and you!
What: For members of Miyagi-do, those interested in Miyagi-do, and whoever else might end up there! (Visiting a friend, etc)
When: Some time first half of month.
Where: At Miyagi-do Dojo in Crenshaw!
MIYAGI-DO: A NEW DAY (AN APRIL LOG)
Miyagi-do has seen some unexpected activity in the last few weeks, but has also--fortunately--seen a return to normality. An upgrade, even, where the damage sustained after a student's accidental explosion caught parts of the dojo in the ensuing chaos now gone after hard work hired, with thanks to the builders and those who helped with funds.
Even the sensei of the dojo has recovered from his own injuries, welcoming students--old and potentials--to classes. Along with a few touch-ups to the dojo, there are other changes, new and old, that should be addressed:
And in his announcement for the start of April's lessons, Sensei LaRusso has a bracelet to share to those who want one, after he's explained what they are. They're ice-powered bracelets--not super powerful, but with proper training they can be used as a means of defence. Spread ice over the ground, freeze certain limbs to surfaces, or even use it to shroud an enemy's face just long enough to distract them.
Sensei LaRusso will show how to use the bracelets to manifest the ice, and Robby Keene will also help in demonstrations, as well as with students individually. Dummies and can be used as stationary targets, and are a great way to learn how to disappear the ice, too--especially if you want to focus on using them for actual living targets, which either Sensei LaRusso or Robby can help with (or, if you're really that into getting iced...!).
Feel free to make your own toplevels on this log, it's meant as a mingle for existing students and those interested in checking out Miyagi-do! You can hang around the snack table, practice some karate, meet the teachers (and food provider...), maybe try out the new fun ice bracelets or.. you know, you can always just hang out with Daniel's Omen. He's a good boy who will stop to get belly rubs from everyone. You can't reject him. Sorry if you sat down for three seconds and are now stuck with a dog on your lap. He will not move.

1. A (SEMI-)NEW SENSEIHe's been around for a month now, but here's your formal introduction to Miyagi-do's second sensei, Sensei Toguchi. Sensei LaRusso would have introduced him as a...not old, but dear friend from back home who has also learned from the school of Miyagi-do back in Okinawa. Skilled in the use of sais, you may find Sensei Toguchi a different kind of sensei from Daniel LaRusso. But we'll let you see that for yourself.
2. YOUR VERY OWN SNACK PROVIDERTruthfully, this is a figure who's been around the dojo since the start, doing exactly what he does now...but Daniel LaRusso would not be himself if he didn't take some time to introduce Hakkai to the class as the person who makes their snacks and refreshments. Because Hakkai deserves his thanks, and you cannot escape a dad man like Daniel.
3. ICE BRACELETS: A NEW FORM OF PROTECTIONMiyagi-do has always worked to help individuals with what it is they want out of the dojo. Sometimes, this can just mean having somewhere to meditate and to find comfort in your own body than to focus on the fighting aspect. But Miyagi-do always leans towards protection, and learning how to respond and to engage with danger. It works to help individuals learn how they can use their own powers in ways that they prefer.
And in his announcement for the start of April's lessons, Sensei LaRusso has a bracelet to share to those who want one, after he's explained what they are. They're ice-powered bracelets--not super powerful, but with proper training they can be used as a means of defence. ENDING NOTESThis log covers the first lesson of April, as well as continuing forward if you want to add extra days and lessons! Please familiarise yourself with what Miyagi-do teaches. Newcomers are welcomed, and there will always be a place to get food and drink...thank you, Hakkai.

[Jun's omen, on the other hand, spots Peter looking at him and sniffs. He can smell the boy's fear and that? That just won't do. He marches up to the older boy and leans heavily against his leg. Jun looks up from his own thoughts and watches his omen, suspicious but holding off for now. Pretty? ... Oh.]
I... guess? I'm not much of a pet person.
no subject
Gently, a hand moves down to the top of the Omen's fluffy golden head to offer some soft pets, his smile now an open grin. So cute... so furry.... why couldn't his Omen have been something like this! )
I uh, had a dog back home. Dogs're the best. ( He looks back up at Jun from where he's leaning over a bit to pet the golden retriever, still smiling even if there's simultaneously a little pinprick ache up under his sternum. He misses Rex. )
Do you know their name yet?
no subject
[He huffs and shrugs at the question.]
No. I've had him a long time so he should, but... I'm not great at naming animals. I never had any at home.
no subject
That's okay β I didn't even name mine. He came up with a name by himself.
( So no judgment about a lack of Omen-naming creativity, here. )
He seems like a really fun one to have. Mine's a snake, so he's definitely not uh, this cute.
no subject
I wouldn't have minded a snake. Especially an aquatic one. ... But I like sea creatures a lot, so it's a little confusing to me that I got a pet as one. I've never even wanted a pet.
[The Dog sneezes and huffs. Nope, Jun got exactly what he needed and his Omen is certain of it!]
no subject
Sounds like we're on uh, opposite ends of the Omen spectrum... I still don't really know why I got a snake. They kind of spook me, to be honest. And mine's.... especially spooky.
( ....He does see glimpses of why the Omen might've been paired with him, though, and most of it has to do with Paimon, which is an... exceptionally unnerving thought. Given that these things are supposed to be tethered to and manifestations of one's soul. Peter doesn't really like thinking about the implications of that too much. )
I guess there's a reason for all of it, though. Why we have the Omens we do. I just wish sometimes it was a little more clear-cut.
no subject
[Falco gets the fluffy, sometimes Manabu. No one else, really.]
Spooky? Like a horror movie? ... I don't really watch those. But... hm. Snakes are kind of interesting. There's about seventy varieties of sea snakes, if I remember right. They're really interesting to watch. There's a variety out near the Ryukyu islands that's got venom that's ten times the strength of a cobra's venom.
... I like sea animals, like I said.
[He might... be blushing a little.]
no subject
He's shifting gears a little though, as he listens to the younger boy speak. Peter's eyebrows lift, curious by the words. )
Damn, it sounds like you know a lot of stuff about them. That's really cool. I had no idea there were that many kinds of sea snakes....
( He probably just thought there was a general "sea snake" animal and that was it.... )
What's your favourite kind? Of sea animal, I mean.
no subject
[... Huh.]
Jellyfish are cool, and weird. But there's even stranger fish that live in the deepest parts of the oceans like anglerfish or viperfish.
Tuna are surprisingly interesting, too. They're a lot bigger than you might think - they can get over two hundred kilograms. Which is...
[Math... he writes some numbers in the air while he tries to remember the calculation...]
Close to four hundred fifty pounds?
no subject
( Peter gives a grin as he ambles a little closer on long legs, brows shooting up all over again as Jun just casually converts math before his very eyes. The Tuna Fact is definitely startling (four hundred-plus pounds???) but what really impresses Peter here is the display of math...... )
Woah, did you just do that in your head? I can barely add and subtract on a good day.
no subject
[Wait, is that impressive? ... He supposes it might be.]
I just had to remember the conversion. It's been a while since I needed to use... American units? Whatever they're called.
[Metric just makes so much more sense!!!]
no subject
Do you go to the school? ( Comes the natural follow-up thought. If Jun does, Peter figures he'll know what he means by "the school" since there's only really one.... But regardless, it's a good opportunity to learn a little bit more about the younger boy. )
no subject
[He nods at the question. There really is only one.]
I... mostly go because Falco goes, to be honest. But I try to do my best there. The science classes don't really match up... but I'm doing my best.
no subject
Yeah, I mostly started going to be with someone, too. It's uh... different, for sure. I'm not there so much these days, but if I see you around, I'll definitely say hey.
( He offers another little smile, before glancing around the dojo. By now, most everyone else has trickled off, on their way home. )
How're you liking the karate thing?
no subject
[... Not his business. Maybe it's to do with the weird smell Peter sometimes brings with him, but... he doesn't really know anything about drugs.]
Sure. It's... kind of a pain, but I don't really know what I'd be doing if I wasn't going to school.
[He's too young to really be working, even though he does work for Manabu...]
It's... helping. I kicked a thief in the knee one night when I was closing up the Roost. And it's... I won't be able to take down a Beast but I'm at least in better shape to stun it and run away now.
no subject
( Yeah, that's what it is! Peter gives an amused little laugh, so it's kind of hard to tell whether he's serious or not, but it all still remains kind of self-deprecatory, like he's poking fun at himself. Really, it's... all you can do, sometimes. )
Yeah? That's good...! I'm still uh, not great with physical stuff, but the mental... focus? It's been helping. Even if I still get kind of overwhelmed sometimes.
( He hasn't forgotten the fact that the younger boy's been sitting off to himself while everyone else went home.... so after a moment, Peter offers, still conversationallyβ )
You doing okay? I noticed you were kinda hanging back.
no subject
[Yeah, he's not familiar with that kind of stuff at all, but whatever.]
I'm not either. Vi started training me before Sensei showed up... I'm trying to get better but knowing my luck my genetics won't really support muscles.
[His mother was in the military, but he has no idea about his father.]
Overwhelmed... yes. I understand that. And I... I don't know. I guess...
[Damn it, can he be open with this guy? He's... trying.]
... I guess I'm just worried about Sensei.
no subject
Because of..... what happened? Him getting hurt?
( That's the initial assumption, but maybe there's something else to it, too. Peter's there to listen either way, and slowly offering a thoughtful frown. )
no subject
There's people here that you really... don't want to jump into helping. As nice as most people are, not everyone is.
no subject
I get that. Worrying about it, I mean. There's a few people I know like that, who... dive in to help.
( It's a precious quality, how eager someone is to help, how it's something they don't think twice about doing, but.... Peter does worry, deeply. Especially in a place like this. He's more someone to... hesitate. )
I think for some people, it's just... how they have to be. How their souls work. Even if there's a risk they'll get hurt, they have to be that person who leaps in and helps other people.
I don't really know any ways to make it easier for us Worriers, but.... I just try to be there for them as best as I can. To try to take care of little things around them, so maybe when they go off to fight and handle the bigger things, they have less to worry about. And keep an eye on them.
( He's definitely thinking of Luna here, and gives a soft smile. Daniel reminds him of her, too. )
He's a really good guy. Maybe we can try to keep an eye on him together.
no subject
[He knows that here souls are a thing, but he doesn't know exactly how much it actually controls someone. He still barely believes in them.]
I try to take care of things for... for Manabu, for example. Keep the house in order? But he's another one of those people who jumps into things. I can't... be like that. I have to think about things before I do them.
[Though was he really thinking about things when he went to try to help Mob? He's not sure.]
But... yeah. Maybe. If he'll even let us.
