It's only a few days later and once he's got some painkillers in him that he's able to do a little bit more at all. Not get out of bed, mind you - that's still way too much on him right now, but at least he's capable of moving his body at all, and therefore to actually grab his Omni and send messages, even if he's stuck in bed.
All of the Miyagi-do students will receive a text from Daniel, asking if they could come see him - m-mostly because he wants to check up on them in person.. Daniel got knocked out so early in the chaos that he has no idea how much any of the kids were involved, and he's worried about them..
But even if you're not a student - maybe you're just Daniel's friend, and you heard about what went down and have come to check up on him. The story about what happened pretty much right next to Daniel's dojo has been going around, after all.
Either way, visiting the dojo basically means visiting Daniel's house already, considering it's attached to it. Anyone who visits will be lead over to the bedroom where Daniel is - either by another occupant of the house, or by Daniel's Omen, who will still be in his much bigger shisa mode, rather than the usual tiny chow chow-looking puppy mode.
Apparently even sitting up is still hard for Daniel, since he's not doing that, but he's at least been propped up with pillows by now, so he's not totally lying flat anymore. There's a half-empty packet of painkillers on his nightstand, and when he hears someone enter, he'll look up from the book he was trying to read.
Daniel still looks a little pale and tired, but thankfully not anywhere near death. He might even manage a tiny smile depending on who's visiting him - his students will all get one for sure. ]
Hey.

Sensei. Daniel.
[Jun's not the most respectful of kids, but when he drops the title for Daniel it's definitely serious.]
You could have died, you know? I know you were trying to protect people, but you have to think about yourself too, okay? How do you think any of us would have felt if you didn't make it?
[He's standing there with his fists clenched and head bowed, trying to prevent himself from tearing up.]
People need you. They need you to be okay. Save dying for - for people who are more okay with that.
no subject
No, Daniel recognizes the reaction, since..
.. well, it was his own, wasn't it? Back when he was only a little older than the boy standing there now. He still remembers staring at mister Miyagi's back, feeling so hurt and worried that the feeling instead spilled out like upset anger, I don't want the house and the pickup back home, I want you!
It's why Daniel isn't hurt by the reaction, seeing it for what it is. If anything.. he's a little touched, honesty, to see Jun care this much. Even if he wishes the boy didn't have to hurt for it. ]
.. why don't you sit down, Jun? [ His voice is soft. Partially because the other is so upset, but also since the man is still rebuilding his strength after all that happened. ] I'm sorry.
[ He at least leads with that, not just wanting to give the boy nothing yet. ]
I'll explain more, but.. please sit down first, alright..?
[ Daniel's Omen even helps. Being in a bigger size comes in handy during moments like these - it makes it easy for the shisa to push a chair over to Daniel's bedside, so Jun can sit right next to where Daniel is in his bed. ]
no subject
You can't do things like this, Sensei. You're too important to too many people.
[He knows he is too, but... well. He's gone through a lot. He's not sure that Daniel has.]

but daniel wasn't dead. he could have been, easily. another thing mob doesn't want to think much about but feels like maybe that's the cowardly thing to do. he did this. daniel did nothing but help him and he did this to him, and to robby, and jun and sunny-
the text would surprise him if he wasn't pretty deep into burying how he felt right now. it gets a slow blink regardless, uncertainty. he wants to text if daniel really meant it, if he was sure he wanted mob near the dojo right now, after everything, but he knows sensei wouldn't send this if he wasn't sure. it's the only request he's gotten from daniel so he'll honor it.
which is why he'll come rather late in the evening to daniel's place, trying to avoid people. he's not really sure anyone wants to see him, so it's probably best, right? he's not even sure shisa wants to see him, but if he's led he'll quietly follow and stop at the door.
not quite looking up at first, but eventually he does. his face is very blank but something shuddering through it when he gets a good look at the state daniel's in. it takes another moment for him to quietly say,] Sensei...
no subject
It makes it a relief when he suddenly hears that voice. Mob did come. Daniel can talk to him in person.
Things can be fixed. ]
Shigeo. [ Daniel smiles. ] I'm so glad you're here.
[ His voice lacks a little bit of energy, but there's some of that usual amicable quality Daniel naturally has in it all the same. He tries to move up a little, trying to see Mob better, but.. well, he sure regrets that idea quickly, since it just makes him wince in pain when he tries to move his back, moving to lay back down on the bed. ]
Come on, sit down. [ Daniel gestures at the chair standing next to the bed, sitting right next to where Daniel is lying down.
It'll sure make it easier for him to look at the boy without risking his back all over again. ]
no subject
and daniel wants him to sit.
he does as he's told because it's easier, because he owes daniel it, taking a seat as directed. his eyes move from down to his hands to daniel and back, not really wanting to see the results of his actions but trying to stomach it because he should see this. it happened, there's no pretending it didn't. the fact daniel doesn't seem mad is another matter he's struggling to process.]
I'm sorry. [his fingers curl into fists on his lap, though his tone stays pretty blank.] I'm so, so sorry, sensei. I- I understand if I shouldn't come by anymore, or call you that.

He'd really thought that he hadn't made it.
It was an even bigger relief when he gets a text from Daniel. That meant he was doing well enough to at least type and stay conscious for a while.
There's been something else bothering Sunny in the aftermath of this all, too, but he isn't sure he wants to bother Daniel with it right now. Not when he's clearly going to be in pain and recovering from serious injuries.
Sunny quietly enters Daniel's room, in case he may have accidentally came at a time where he was sleeping. Until it's clear he wasn't from the greeting.]
Hello.
[He draws closer, frowning lightly at the state of his sensei.] How are you feeling?
no subject
A little bit better each day.
[ The answer matches up too. It's optimistic in nature, but also avoidant in a way that both avoids giving a more direct answer and avoids lying to Sunny.
But Daniel sure feels better than openly discussing his levels of pain with one of his students. They shouldn't have to worry about that.
He shakes his head a little. ]
That's not important though. [ A-Are you sure about that, Daniel.. Though this is less about him wanting to avoid talking about himself - though he does, but that's not the point here - and more about something else he really wanted to say. ] I heard that you did so much to solve the entire situation.
[ That makes the smile on Daniel's face turn a whole lot more genuine, the man's eyes almost sparkling with fondness. ]
Words can't describe how proud I am of you, Sunny. It can't have been an easy thing to do, but.. you still did it. That's amazing.

his omen is a beautiful good boy, by the way. she quite likes the ones with the canine omens. either way, when she steps in . . . this woman, in a long coat carries with her a box wrapped in coarse paper and elegantly tied with string. the dyed cherry string isn’t too different from how much her hair sticks out in black. ]
Hello, Sensei.
[ they haven’t met. until now, anyway! ]
no subject
(He'll take it, honestly.)
Daniel is still weak enough though that his Omen can't help but be just a tad protective, moving to sit at Daniel's feet (like it's a lapdog, despite the fact that the shisa in full form is more teenager-sized) when there is someone in the dojo he's never seen before. The shisa doesn't seem hostile though - its gaze aimed at Makima is more calm than anything else.
Daniel's own greeting is not much different, though perhaps a touch weaker while he still isn't fully recovered. Still, he straightens to greet Makima (probably a little more than is necessarily good for him right now, since he faintly winces in pain), slightly nodding his head in greeting. ]
Hello.
[ She does not seem like she's here for karate. Especially when most of Daniel's students are teenagers. Still, it leaves him guessing as to what she could be here for, a touch of curiosity in the man's gaze when he continues. ]
I assume you're here for the dojo..? [ In some extent, even if she may not be here to learn karate. Most people wouldn't address him as sensei otherwise, after all. ]

[Frankly, Hakkai had been so in deep with his own endeavors, and, unfortunately, the gambling den, he hasn't heard all of the details just yet. He knows something terrible happened, people were injured, and the man who keeps hassling him to look after himself was involved. Plus... you know. He works there. Sort of. Volunteers. Same thing.]
[He's greeted the Omen politely as usual. It's surprising to see the little pup turned into such a large creature. And it makes him wonder if Jeep might still be capable of turning into his other mode as well.]
[Hakkai hadn't entirely expected Daniel to be awake. As evidenced from the way he pauses in the doorway. Debating if he should step out or not.]
Ah - I hadn't meant to disturb you.
no subject
[ Daniel smiles as he says it. There's a bit of lacking energy to it compared to his usual smiles, but there's warmth in all the same, despite the fact that Daniel kind of looks like he could pass out any moment now.
(Though that shouldn't be too much of a problem while he's in bed already, right.)
Still - despite his lack of energy, despite the pain and the fact he's still recovering.. Daniel's mind is not far off enough to not realise the implication in Hakkai's words. ]
Or are you saying you weren't even planning on greeting me..? [ There's a lightness to the words, like he's trying to make it sound like a joke, though joking energy is still a little hard to muster.
He's trying, though.
Daniel's Omen in the meantime gently pushes its now much bigger head against Hakkai's legs, like it's urging him to move closer towards the bed. ]

[News traveled fast around here. Keith leaned against the doorframe, an expression that was somewhere between a concerned frown and an amused smirk.]
Looks like you're getting some downtime.
no subject
You know, rather than looking like an injured middle aged dad in bed. Which is what he currently is.
Still, even if his smile is a little lopsided, it's still visible on his face as he raises his hand to gesture for the other to come in. There's a chair next to Daniel's bedside, in case Keith might want to sit down. ]
Involuntary downtime, really. [ He lightly jokes: ] I forgot how boring it can sometimes be to be stuck in bed.
[ Especially since Daniel is usually the kind of person to just push himself through any illness, but.. well, that's not really possible with a basically broken back. ]

"Hey," he greets back. "Do I need to quote your own advice back to you?" asks, just as directly, but with a hint of a grin.
He strongly suspects Daniel's gotten enough lectures on that front, actually.
no subject
"I don't regret anything," he still says though, apparently unable to resist.
Does he wish this could have ended without him basically breaking his back? Sure. Of course. He'd love that.
But in the face of one of his students being in danger? He would've made the same choice all over again, and he knows it.
"Even if being stuck in bed isn't exactly what I call enjoyable."
But he's being good. And resting.

[ Ritsu bows in the doorway before entering, always so polite. It's weird, he hasn't really been going to class much so he isn't really considering himself one of Daniel's students, but the urge to still call him that is there. When he heard that Daniel got hurt... well, it never entered his head that Sensei might blame Shigeo, so unlike with everyone else, he isn't here to apologize on his brother's behalf, or for what he sees as his own role in things.
Instead he's brought a couple of volumes of Ranma 1/2 that he's been reading, and some poorly sliced fruit (cooking, Ritsu's other weakness) and a Get Well Soon card in neat kanji. The warmblood urge to give gifts is long past but here he is with these, awkwardly bringing them over as he stands by Daniel's bedside. ]
I brought these for you.
no subject
[ It's not total shock on Daniel's part. He may not know Ritsu as well yet as most of his other students, but Daniel does believe in the inherent goodness of every single kid he trains. Mob is such a nice kid that he doesn't doubt his brother is the same.
And yet.. there's still something just a touch surprising in Ritsu going out of his way for him like that. Daniel still can't quite sit up yet, so he can't reach over to the items the kid has brought him, but he smiles as he looks at it all all the same.
(It's a good kind of surprising. A warm, fond kind.) ]
That's so sweet of you, Ritsu. Thank you so much. [ Maybe it's a slight overreaction - low energy, sure, but somehow still soaked in emotion, in happiness - for a gift like this, but Daniel is easily touched when it comes to these good, good kids.. ] Did you make that fruit yourself?
[ Not to diss your slicing skills, Ritsu.
It's okay though, it just makes the entire gesture more endearing. ]

But he's here. And he's got two bags of food. One dripping onto the floor as he walks, and the other not, there's also a six pack of beer being held by a few free fingers.
He doesn't exactly kick in the door but his appearance is loud and abrupt. There was no other way Johnny could enter.]
Hey there, LaRusso.
Heard you got your ass kicked. Thought I'd come to show up to you know- take your mind off it.
[He's... Trying?]
no subject
This one? It's a little more surprising. Surprising enough that Daniel doesn't even complain about the state of the floor after Johnny has made his bag drip all over it, or the way the other enters the room like a thunderstorm. Maybe some of that will come later, but right now Daniel is instead uncharacteristically quiet for a moment. Like his brain needs a moment to process the fact that Johnny heard about what happened and actually decided to visit. Daniel isn't even thinking this could be something Robby might have bullied the other guy into, which only makes it more surprising. ]
.. with beer?
[ Apparently that's the first thing Daniel manages to get out of his throat after watching the other in silence for a moment. His eyes are still a little wide with surprise, and his skin is a little pale since he's still recovering, but at least he doesn't look totally miserable.
Mostly just baffled at the moment, in fact. ]
Or is that for you?

keeping his wounds vague since i'm not done threading
Uraraka would probably tell him he doesn't communicate enough when it comes to the hard stuff.
Midoriya doesn't quite feel up to starting Crenshaw cleanup, so he's here doing something less physically tiring. He follows Daniel's enlarged Omen to him. This is an odd sort of meeting, considering the last time they played out this scene, it was Midoriya laid up in bed and Daniel visiting him with well wishes.
"Sensei," he says quietly, setting down the melon he brought. "Can... can I get you anything?" He can't offer much more than fetching something, water perhaps, or cutting him a slice. Except-- "I can't heal you, but I... I can help fix up the dojo later..."
WORRIED DAD MODE ENGAGE ANYWAY!!!
This is the first he's seen of one that isn't, and worry takes over Daniel's heart so quickly that it almost physically hurts. He tries to move up instinctively, like he wants to help Midoriya, but that only makes him wince before forcing him quickly to lie right back down, the pain too intense to do anything.
"Why--" He starts, before cutting himself off, eyes wide. There's so much he wants to ask here. How Midoriya got this injured, why he went here when he's this injured in the first place, he could've just told Daniel--
"Are you kidding me..?" It doesn't sound angry, at least. It sounds a little baffled, sure, but it mostly just sounds worried as all hell, mirrored in Daniel's gaze as he looks at the boy. "You should be the one resting. Are you okay..?"
Sure, he can walk, and it's not like Midoriya looks like he's dying or anything, but he's definitely injured and yet still came all the way over when Daniel called. H-He would've understood if Midoriya just told him he couldn't see him in person since he's hurt..

He stands there in the doorway with his backpack on one shoulder, wide-eyed and staring at the man propped up in bed, unmoving.
He thought Daniel was dead, when the incident with Mob happened. He doesn't remember much else after that. Paimon... tore out of him, and Peter came to sometime later on. It was like a warzone, so much destroyed. Blood on his clothes, from someone else.
He found out Daniel wasn't dead, but... hurt. Hurt bad. Hurt the kind of way that Peter's always afraid of hurting somebody. And now, looking at his teacher in bed, how pale and exhausted and small he seems, it's almost too much to take. It hurts to look at him like that.
But Peter sees that smile, the attempt at one, and feels his heart flip over sideways in his chest. He manages a small one of his own, and then runs his tongue over his lips as though nervous. )
Hey, Mr. LaRusso. I um— I hope this isn't a bad time.
( It's been a couple of days since he got that message. Peter didn't want to overwhelm him, certain that all the others would be coming here as quickly as they could, so he waited a little.
Slowly, he moves further into the room, unable to stop his eyes from looking Daniel over, still a little too widely. It feels like visiting someone at the hospital; he's not sure where to look. What to say. How to say it. His heart's thumping. )
Are you— um. How are you feeling? ( A small beat, before Peter adds on some of his own concern with a harsh knit of his brows, like a wince. He doesn't see how Daniel could not still be in pain, and looks like he already knows the answer even as he says it. ) Are you still... in pain?
no subject
Especially when it sounds like it has happened before for Peter as well.
It makes Daniel even more determined to be lighthearted about this, even though he's tried to play it off the same way with pretty much all his students who came to visit. Besides, it's not like it's a total lie when he does feel better with their visits and care - he appreciates seeing Peter here, too. ]
Yeah. [ He at least won't lie about that. If not just because it'd be an obvious lie. ] But it's-- It's manageable, really.
[ Not like it's the first time in his life he's been beaten up. First time he's been beaten up by a piece of a building, though. ]
I'd even say I'm doing relatively good for someone in my position. [ He didn't die, for one. ] All of this is just reminding me of how awfully boring it is to be stuck in bed.
[ He makes sure to give that last part a little bit of dramatics in his tone, even though he still sounds tired in a way he can't quite get rid of at the same time. But maybe he'd prefer for Peter to think about that, rather than any of these heavier things. Look, isn't it awful when your old sensei is stuck in bed with nothing to do!! :( A crime! ]
