MIYAGI-DO: A NEW DAY (AN APRIL LOG)

Miyagi-do has seen some unexpected activity in the last few weeks, but has also--fortunately--seen a return to normality. An upgrade, even, where the damage sustained after a student's accidental explosion caught parts of the dojo in the ensuing chaos now gone after hard work hired, with thanks to the builders and those who helped with funds.

Even the sensei of the dojo has recovered from his own injuries, welcoming students--old and potentials--to classes. Along with a few touch-ups to the dojo, there are other changes, new and old, that should be addressed:

1. A (SEMI-)NEW SENSEI

He's been around for a month now, but here's your formal introduction to Miyagi-do's second sensei, Sensei Toguchi. Sensei LaRusso would have introduced him as a...not old, but dear friend from back home who has also learned from the school of Miyagi-do back in Okinawa. Skilled in the use of sais, you may find Sensei Toguchi a different kind of sensei from Daniel LaRusso. But we'll let you see that for yourself.

2. YOUR VERY OWN SNACK PROVIDER

Truthfully, this is a figure who's been around the dojo since the start, doing exactly what he does now...but Daniel LaRusso would not be himself if he didn't take some time to introduce Hakkai to the class as the person who makes their snacks and refreshments. Because Hakkai deserves his thanks, and you cannot escape a dad man like Daniel.

3. ICE BRACELETS: A NEW FORM OF PROTECTION

Miyagi-do has always worked to help individuals with what it is they want out of the dojo. Sometimes, this can just mean having somewhere to meditate and to find comfort in your own body than to focus on the fighting aspect. But Miyagi-do always leans towards protection, and learning how to respond and to engage with danger. It works to help individuals learn how they can use their own powers in ways that they prefer.

And in his announcement for the start of April's lessons, Sensei LaRusso has a bracelet to share to those who want one, after he's explained what they are. They're ice-powered bracelets--not super powerful, but with proper training they can be used as a means of defence. Spread ice over the ground, freeze certain limbs to surfaces, or even use it to shroud an enemy's face just long enough to distract them.

Sensei LaRusso will show how to use the bracelets to manifest the ice, and Robby Keene will also help in demonstrations, as well as with students individually. Dummies and can be used as stationary targets, and are a great way to learn how to disappear the ice, too--especially if you want to focus on using them for actual living targets, which either Sensei LaRusso or Robby can help with (or, if you're really that into getting iced...!).

[ The smile on his face remains at that reply though, and he easily moves his own hand to grab the younger boy's, giving it a brief shake before pulling his hand back.

After all, if Falco had been here for karate, then surely he would've approached Daniel himself already. He doesn't seem like a super shy boy if he's easily introducing himself now, anyway. ]

It's very sweet of you to come do that though. Or rather.. [ Daniel's voice trails off, glancing over to where Jun is right now in the dojo's yard, probably training - and then the man looks back at Falco. ] Maybe I should say Jun could use a few more sweet things in his life.

[ Considering how sad and/or grumpy the boy often seems to be.. even if that's not much of a surprise, with all he's been through. ]

[ daniel......... COME ON.......... is that something to say to some teenager's kind of sort of boyfriend???? your dad energy is all over the place and it's too powerful!! falco, at this point, has turned completely green and even puffs his cheeks out to try and. keep it together!! ]

. . . Did he, um. Did he say that.

[ Sorry, Falco.. He lives to embarrass, even if it's not always intentional... ]

[ SHAMELESS ADMISSION. But, you know, anyone who knows Jun would know that the boy would never say that out loud. Maybe to Falco in private, who knows, but in public? No way. He's even tsundere about showing his affection towards Daniel. ]

But it's true, isn't it? He tends to seem so sad. I'm glad if he has things in his life that can make him happy. [ The cheese... it's spilling everywhere.. it's too sappy...

Sorry for your green face, Falco. ]

but all of the sheepishness is positive. jun will probably feel his chest flutter from across the room quite literally! ]

Oh, is that so?

[ There's definitely a teasing edge to his tone there, although it's aimed a little more at Jun than at Falco. Because-- yes, Daniel does know Jun is like that. Sweet, but tries to hide it. It's just a little amusing (and heart-warming, really) to hear it from someone else for once.

But he does drop the tone after a moment, if not just for Falco's sake. Daniel doesn't want to give the poor kid a heart attack. ]

I'm glad you realise that about him. [ Though it'd be weird if Falco didn't, if they're that close.. ] He's so good at saying something nice, and then pretending it's other people thinking or saying it instead of him.

[ The typical tsundere trick... ]

[ thank you, daniel. birds can die of cardiac arrest!! think of the birds! once the burning around his cheeks has calmed enough that they don't, well, burn as much or even hurt to smile, he looks up at daniel with a smile. ]

How does he do that?

[ because clearly, falco has been off the tsundere list for so long he doesn't remember how that part of jun's tsundere card works! ]

[ Daniel smiles right back at the boy. He's not too surprised Falco doesn't seem to have any idea. If anything, it's a good thing - it shows that Jun cares enough about the boy to just be openly sweet around him. ]

He visited me after I got hurt. [ Last month, of course - with even Jun having been involved in that entire disaster, Daniel is sure Falco must know about it too. ] And he just..

[ The man ducks his head, letting out a very light laugh. It's a fond one, like just thinking back on it feels nice to him. ]

He kept emphasizing how other people were surely worried about me. Over and over.

[ You know. Because clearly Jun himself wasn't, right.

Thankfully Daniel is very good at seeing through these things. He's used to teenagers. ]

[ falco.......... presses him lips together tightly, but it's clear that this is just to stifle down a chuckle that becomes a snort. ]

And— not him?

[ he's not laughing at jun, but . . . !!! ]

Yes. Definitely not him.

[ It's not like it's evil to encourage just a little bit of boyfriend amusement, right.. What's life like if you can't get amused by your partner? Daniel is pretty sure Amanda gets amused by him all the time, and not always necessarily on purpose.. ]

I'm glad that he's learned how to be direct with someone, if he's at least not doing that to you.

It’s hard for him to be upfront with his feelings all the time, but, [ ahhh. what’s the word? ] he’s trying his best.

[ no, there was a better word for that. ]

It’s, [ c u t e, ] It’s c— ah, great.

[ he’s smiling too wide to be thinking “great”, but moving on! ]

And you seem like a great teacher, Mister LaRusso.

You were so not going to say great. Daniel is a dad. He knows these sorts of things, especially when Falco starts on that 'c' and then quickly cuts himself off. Daniel is nice enough to at least not call it out and embarrass the boy further, but he smiles all the same.

Ah, to be young and in love, huh.. ]

You think so? [ The amusement remains in his tone when he instead addresses the last part of what the boy brings up, shaking his head a little. ] I don't think you have all that much to base that on yet. Are you sure you're not trying to flatter me so I'll be nice to Jun?

[ That last part is a joke, at least.. ]

I'm being honest!

[ honest to god honest!! but the boy grins, more in tune with the glee of it than getting any more embarrassed. the color doesn't leave his face. ]

I mean, he talks a lot about this place . . . I don't want to fight anymore so I'm not participating, but it's been doing well for him. That can only happen if you're a good teacher, sir.

[ but also maybe he is trying to butter his buns just a little bit. payback!!! ]

Well.. I guess you would be the best judge of whether it's doing well for him or not. [ Since the two of them seem to be so close.. Precious boys..

Even if a phrasing like 'I don't want to fight anymore' does all sorts of things to Daniel's heart. Isn't that a sentiment he partially understands just a little bit too well. It makes his gaze soften a little as he stares at Falco, though he doesn't directly address it. It's not the sort of thing he'd want to drag up for the poor boy during such a sweet moment. ]

But maybe you shouldn't tell him you told me that. He'd probably get all flustered.

[ There's a tiny pause, and then Daniel seems to recall something, adding: ] I told him that you two are always welcome to join in on dinner here too if you ever want to.

[grice]

[ sekrit: falco plans a moment of goblin mode to tell jun to see him flustered. he’s not telling a soul, but maybe his goofy smile is. ]

Oh— really? [ oh wait, now one more thing!! ] do you like bread rolls, sir? I can make some to bring you!

[ Oh no, look at this small child.. Daniel extends a dinner invite, and his first instinct is to bring him some food in return? There's nothing that can make Daniel smile like the sight of a Good Kid. ]

You make bread rolls?

[ And, hey, Daniel himself likes cooking. It's nice to see kids taking an interest in it too, especially in a place like this, where it's a really useful skill.. ]

[grice]

—Yes!

[ just watch him get all hyped up on bread rolls, man. ]

I like making them look like round birds, but— I haven’t gotten it right, yet.

[ but he will!! ]

Bread rolls shaped like birds? It'd be the first time I've seen those.

[ He doesn't say it in the sort of way that sounds like he's making fun of it though. Daniel likes little quirky things like that - if not just because his teacher was full of those, and Daniel has always been so incredibly fond of the man. ]

Let me know when you get it right. I'll make sure to invite you and Jun over that day so we can all enjoy your bread rolls. [ He winks. ] You know, coincidentally.

[ Not like they've been scheming behind Jun's back, right. Clearly. Obviously. ]

[ oh, man. daniel is a dude. falco's smile brightens up to that, and quietly, as if they're not talking about much, ]

That's a coincidence.

[ but, well! it is food time, and sticking around for too long here is going to make jun suspect something is amiss! with a better head bow to dismiss himself, falco gives the man an approving smile, ]
