"Oh, yeah? What's the right way?" See if he can take notes, because killing people that justice can't touch-- while effective, left him vulnerable at a time when he really couldn't be locked up.
"Uh... me?" He blinks, glancing back at him, lips parted. It's really not something people ask him very often. "Twenty-two. Guess I've had a sword on me for a decade." He laughs at that, hefting the sword now dangling from his hand. "How about you?" He's guess older than him, maybe Judy's age, which he never really got a good read on, but that Kritian's for you.
"Actually getting some proper training before going out on the street. Basic self-defense classes can only do so much." Especially when it came to some of the villains her and the team had to face back home.
"I was applying to law school when I was twenty-two." She shakes her head at that, as it felt like a lifetime ago for her. "I'm thirty now, and based on who I've met in this place so far, probably one of its oldest residents."
So many teens, kids and people in their early twenties were around.
"Training's overrated," Yuri waves a hand vaguely. "You did just fine."
Thirty, huh? He grimaces. Almost as old as Raven. Thirty seems so far away from where he is now, but she doesn't seem old, not like Raven does.
"Law school? Like... a school to learn about the law?" His grimace deepens. That sounds like his hell, really. "Well, I dunno what to tell you. My roommate's... he doesn't know how old he is, but something like 300? Old, man. Real old."
"Yep. That's exactly what a law school is for." She tries to hide a smile at his grimace. "I know it isn't for everyone, but I wanted to help people and becoming a lawyer was one way of doing that."
The vigilante stuff came afterwards.
"Wait, 300?!" That catches Laurel by surprise. "That's really old. I'm guessing he isn't human, right? Or just comes from a world where people have a really, really long lifespan."
"Oh, yeah? What can lawyers do?" Forgive him, Laurel. Both they probably don't really have lawyers in Terca Lumereis, and he doesn't respect most authority figures.
"He's a Mu, I think from Earth? I dunno, it's pretty complicated, but he really doesn't look that old. Nice guy, if you run into him. Blue," that's his name, or what he calls himself, at least. "He lives with me and Flynn."
"Say a person has broken the law. Like stolen from another person. It would be up to me to help uphold that law in a court and then a judge decides on the appropriate punishment."
It's the most basic way that Laurel can put it.
"Never heard of a Mu, but okay. I know that everyone's world is different." She will probably run into him at some point. "A lot of people seem to have found a place to live in together here."
"Huh. That's not how it works at home," he doesn't know if that sounds better, or worse. "The knights catch you committing a crime, they throw you in a cell. No court or judge or anything."
He laughs, turning the corner, with an eye out for any other ghosts. "Yeah, well. The guy was living in the hospital. Couldn't let that stand." Yuri glances at her with a quirk of a smile. "You got a place, right?"
"That doesn't seem fair, but I guess I can't change how your world works." She learned that everyone deserved a fair trial, no matter what the crime was.
Laurel makes a face. "Yeah. I wouldn't want to live in a hospital either." Then she smiles at him. "Temporarily living with my sister until I find a place of my own. Speaking of which, I should probably get back to her before she sends out a search party." A pause. "Thanks for your help again, Yuri."
"Think I should be the one thanking you," Yuri waves his hand vaguely in the air, smiling at her. "If I get in trouble, hell, now I'm friends with a lawyer. See you around, Laurel."
ofc!
