He manages a low, pleased chuckle, though the darkness still cuts through. "I may have had a restrictive upbringing, but not when it came to education. We had free rein of the library. When I wasn't in class or finding ways to give the security detail the slip in order to explore the city of the year, I was curled with some bit of classic fiction or science fiction.

He looks up at her. "And you have the perspective of standing outside of my mind and maintaining sheer objectivity. What do you see?"

"Call it what you will, but whatever sent it certainly knows how to get inside one's head and find one's soft spots," he mutters.

He raises an eyebrow at Stiles when the bat jumps to the youngster's hand. "Remind me never to underestimate your capabilities." He bows his head tiredly, then speaks, thoughtfully. "The name of an old friend from my world of origin, my research partner for many years. I'd half wondered if I'd see his face here. But not like this." At that moment a greenish runnel starts to flow from under one of his lenses.

"A new life and new roles deserved new names. For that matter... the name you knew me under wasn't the name I was born with, though I'd worn it long enough it had started to feel like a true name," he says, almost distantly.

"I was ...a physician in the world I came from. It seemed fitting and proper to take up Blood Ministry and build from that. If this place is anything like its predecessor, we the Sleepers will need as many healers, however one defines healing, as we can find. But, I'm a restless spirit, and so hunting Beasts seemed the best way to satisfy that side of me. Considering how different those roles are, I thought it best to wear a different names, along with the mask."

Mako

[ Wu nods slowly, those words cutting too close to the truth, to the fears he has. At least he feels safe, nestled against Mako's chest, with Mako's arms around him. Safe, physically, even if he's still afraid. Afraid of what Mako might say, afraid that Mako might not want to him.

But Mako says he understands. He says it, and Wu needs to let Mako decide for himself. He wouldn't want to force him into anything, again, wouldn't want to lie to him, even if it means Mako won't love him anymore.

He would rather Mako love him for him than love him for a fantasy of himself. He takes a shaky breath ]

That's-- yes. I don't, I don't know why you would, would like me when I'm not... [ He presses closer, fingers curling in Mako's shirt ] I guess, happy, excited Wu is... easier. For people to deal with. So I'm not making them deal with my, ah... negative emotions.

Vyng

That's-- that's okay! I'm sorry for offending you. Even if I didn't mean to, I'm still sorry.

[ Wu wrings his hands together, looking up at Vyng. He feels like he just walked into quicksand, and he's glad that Vyng's letting him out of it. ]

They're very nice. Your ears. That's a weird compliment. There are so many people here who look different! I suppose if you're different among people who are different, it's easier.

[ He feels that way, at least. There aren't really any people here who look like him, either, but at least so few Sleepers are the same that it doesn't make them stick out. ]

But I get it! If someone had given me a mask that had a big nose, I probably would have made the, um, same assumption.

Lance

[ Wu sings out the Rihanna lyrics happily, grinning at Lance ]

You know that song? Well, I think its a great look on you, Lance. Really great! I don't know if mine does that. Dipper said to see what happens to it in all different ways, but I don't really want to-- take it out? Of my body?

[ He doesn't need an apology, not really. But he needs assurance that some weird kid isn't stalking him. ]

[ That's something. For a moment, he's reminded too much about a similar conversation he had, another one where he didn't want an apology, but he wanted Sodia to own up to her shit. ]

Blue

Hm. Guess we don't know that, what's after. For us, here, I dunno if there is one. Just... being a squid again.

[ Yuri rests a hand on his shoulder ]

But, hey, let's talk philosophy somewhere safer. [ And warmer, for his sake. He shivers, now that he's coming down off of the fight with the beast. He should probably clean up the body, but he can do that later, once Blue is safe back at home.

He nudges Blue forward, heading back toward the wall of the city ]

You... you have your second chance, right?

"Yeah, I get that. Better to live off your own mettle, right?" He laughs softly, shaking his head. "I dunno, though. Magic is pretty useful. Yours is. My friend, back home, Estelle, can heal just about anything. Saved my ass more than once. But your friend has a point, too."

Maybe neither way is right. He's okay with that grey space, that both are right, and both are wrong, at the same time.

"You miss him, huh?"

Kaeya

[ His eyes light on the gem, and his brows furrow. That's pretty similar to a blastia, isn't it? Or, it might be. ]

So... ice and fire, right?

[ If he's right, he's going to be really proud of himself. ]

Right, so if you're used to ice, fire must be tough? Huh. I don't do much elemental stuff, or I didn't. Just steel.

[ He laughs, then waves a hand for Kaeya if he wants to follow him out of the square ]

What's that thing made of, the Vision?

Laurel

"Vigilante, huh? Me, I got my first sword when I was twelve. Well, I shared my first sword," he laughs easily, and waves for her to follow him, if she wants to. He doesn't really feel like standing still in this square. "Had a stint as a vigilante, too. Didn't work out that great for me. Hope it does better, for you."

Luke

"Oh yeah? Yeah, I guess he didn't look that old. How, uh... how's that work?" Yuo know, with his dad being older than him. Yuri's honestly curious, watching him.

Saxcise

Me? Yeah. My best friend, Flynn. Might've seen him around, real stiff guy, blonde, wearing armor, too polite?

[ He laughs softly, and Repede stands up to go and sit by her. He doesn't touch her, but he sits resolutely there, providing just some company ]

It does help, though. I dunno what I would do, here, without him. Had to try, last month. [ When he died ] So, I get it, at least kinda. But, hey. There are plenty of people here, right? [ New friends to make ]

Mako | TLOK

...no. I don't mind.

[ That's a massive understatement.

Already the other Mako is fading away, less like a phantom and more like a shadow. It seems like he's melting back into his surroundings, into the city that made him, with a quiet smile on his face.

The older Mako stays behind, still looking around himself with longing clear on his face, mentally ticking off landmarks, places, moments in time. There, the alley he and Bolin made their home for a few weeks. Across the street the grocer who'd take pity on Mako sometimes and give him unsold produce, enough to feed him and Bolin for a few days, and a few shops down from there a restaurant who sometimes let Mako wash dishes for a few yuan under the table. ]

It's, uh.

[ There's so much feeling in his voice, and Mako tries to swallow around it, tries to hide it. It doesn't work. ]

It's kind of nice that it won't just be me and Bo who know... what this place looks like. Even Korra and Asami never really came here. Wu definitely didn't. It's pretty dangerous.

( Peter's shaking his head before he realises, stupidly, the guy can't see him. No relying on anxious body language right now, Peter. You're going to have to use your words. )

No, it's completely new. It just started... happening? I think it has something to do with shadows, I don't know. This place is fucking weird. ( He thinks he's like.... absorbing shadows these days, but he's not sure how to even put that into words. And the other boy's finally lowered his weapon; Peter's not about to say some especially creepy shit that might make him second guess that decision. )

You haven't uh... had anything like that happen, yet?

( Being immediately reminded of Will's plight has Peter coming back out of it a little, blinking with concern again. )

Oh— yeah, no, that's totally fine. We definitely have to get you feeling better first.

( Paimon doesn't mind being patient, especially not with Will. The important thing is the act of exchange itself, and he knows the young boy would never trick him. There's another pause, and then— )

He really likes when you draw animals. ( Peter blinks again, eyes moving over to the demonic-looking horse alongside Will. Paimon's interpreting the Omens as "familiars", more or less, and this one is really impressive. )

....Maybe your Familiar? Uh, I mean— your horse.

( It's a pretty nice little selection: a variety of vegetables, and Peter had managed to find some noodles and a small loaf of bread... even a block of cheese. He definitely ends up with more than he thought he would, but there are at least plenty of gold coins to exchange for it. The people around here really do like shiny things. Having a demon who grants gold has its perks, sometimes. )

We have one, yeah. It's a pretty good size and everything. ( Peter pauses for a couple of moments, realising that he's about to bring a stranger back with him, and hoping that's okay, but...... then there's this peculiar creeping thought that the guy isn't actually a stranger? But how could that be...? He just met him. )

It's uh— not too far. We live in Gaze. ( The teen starts moving that way before stopping again, looking back at Booker. Walking alongside somebody when you're essentially a ghost is kind of hard. Who knew! )

I uh, I'll tell you where to turn and stuff. Sorry. Invisibility's more awkward than I thought it'd be.

They don't live in my country, but... in others there's lots. And different kinds! They live out in the wild where they can be left in peace.

[ She's seen pictures of them sometimes in books. There's a little smile at that. Her first bear, his first witch! A first of meetings! This is nice. ]

The thing about Trench is you get to meet all sorts. I suppose it's one of the nice things about it.

Normal wasn't the word she would use to describe this place, but maybe they could pretend that there isn't any weird stuff going on. Laurel has already seen weird things and met people who didn't come from "normal" worlds so who knows what she will encounter next?

"Two people out for a walk as they take in the sights of the town. I can work with that."

She laughs lightly, giving a shake of her head.

"Did you arrive around the same time as Sara? I know she hasn't been here for long. Actually, a lot of people don't seem to be, but they were in the place before."

Laurel has been learning bits and pieces of the dream world.

Most people wouldn't. Truth be told, this place is more normal to him than the Waverider still a lot of the time. It's closer to his world than most other people that he knows.

"What better way to get the lay of the land?"

The question comes about when he arrived though and he shakes his head.

"No, I got here a few months before her at least, back in Deerington that is. Mick Rory, one of our teammates, well future teammates for her was there a while as well, but uh---not anymore."

“Very good. Very good,” Maul says with all seriousness. “I have two but that makes much more sense when you’re on land and not under the water. Hmmm, I wonder if the Nautolans have one or two hearts? They live under the water most of the time but they are also able to live on land should they so choose.”

He didn’t know all that much about them despite having one of his good friends and crush be one in his youth. Then again Maul had been much more interested in how beautiful he found Kilindi both inside and out than anything about her species. It hadn’t mattered in the end of course, for his master had made him kill her along with all the rest at Orsis Academy.
