"A towel! Yeah, that should work, I have plenty of those. Be right back!" And she disappeared into the front door of her garish yellow and pink house.
And emerges with a beach towel which is a lie. She likes far more than six people here. Back home? That was asking a lot. But she starts flapping the beach towel at the butterfly which gives her a blasé expression, then flew away apparently on its own.
"...so. Um. Would you like to come in for tea? I have at least twenty kinds."

A glance is given to the towel as Lexi starts to flap it, taking a few motions for her to fully read it. She might have snorted a little, feeling the corner of her lips twitching. While there are more than six that Padmé like, the sentiment is understood.
She watches it fly off, seemingly bothered enough by the towel. Her eyes trail, as if expecting something more, before turning back to her. "Tea would be lovely."
(CW: addiction)
It's a rather horrifying beach towel, but she'd bought it because it reminded her of Rue. She often wondered what her friend(?) would make of this place. Lexi sure knew it would provide a cold turkey version of withdrawal. And she wasn't sure that would be for the best or not.
She's seen too many kaiju movies because Lexi was expecting the same. But apparently not? Not this time, anyway? "All right, cool, let's go inside. I have, like, five different versions of chai alone."

"So she's your best friend? It must be really nice having her with you, helping you adjust to stuff. I wish my best friend would come here. But anyway, if you want to come into the kitchen with me, I have all of my teas organized in a cabinet?"
no subject
"But, it also means that anything that happens here can also happen to her." Padmé knew that they didn't have a choice, and she was fairly lucky. Between her wayward husband who Padmé couldn't keep track of, and her friend, there were a number of people here that she knew, knew of, or knew her. "Of course. Let's see, as I am picking a huge cabinet now..."
no subject
"Yeah, that would be pretty stressful. To have someone here that's so important to you, never knowing what might happen to you or them or to both of you. But...I still can't help hoping that my best friend from home shows up someday. Is that weird?" She's sure that it's weird. But speaking of weird, she actually thinks this place would be good for Rue.
no subject
"No, I don't think that is weird at all." It meant that she cared about her. It was a tough topic. It wasn't like they could just reach out and communicate with people who weren't here. Perhaps if they had, it may have changed. "She's your friend. Someone who understands you, who knows you."
(CW: drug addiction)
"Thanks. I really think this place would be good for her in a lot of ways." For one thing, it would make Rue go off of the opiates. Hopefully for good since the only drugs here were the non-addictive magic mushrooms. She constantly wished she'd gone to Mrs. Bennett about Rue...before. But she'd been too afraid of losing Rue's friendship if she tattled. "Yeah. We've been friends since pre-school. Until this year, it was kind of a given that I'd be where she was and she'd be where I was."
no subject
"That's a long time to have a friend. I'm sure that you'll see her at some point again. Time and distances do not diminish those types of relationships."
(CW: car wrecks)
Lexi wished she could be so optimistic. She generally wondered if Rue had simply outgrown her, like she was a pair of sneakers which didn't fit anymore. Hard to get rid of, but not very useful. "I hope you're right. I can't help wondering what's going on while I'm not there, though."

"If they ask? Or something here accidentally reveals it? I'm afraid it's not quite as straightforward as that."
no subject
Oh, um, nothing's straightforward, is it? Ever?" Much as Lexi wished otherwise.
